LEROY FER TARGETS WEST HAM RETURN 19th April 2015 by @QPRFC QPR midfielder hopes to make his comeback from injury against West Ham … Leroy Fer hoping to make comeback for QPR against West Ham on Saturday Dutch international has been out for two months with knee injury Chris Ramsey has told Fer he wants to play him in advanced central role LEROY Fer is targeting a return from injury when QPR host West Ham next weekend. Rangers take on the Hammers at Loftus Road on Saturday, and the influential Fer is hoping to be available for selection. The 25 year-old midfielder has been sidelined for the past two months after picking up a knee injury during our 2-0 win at Sunderland in February. image: http://www.qpr.co.uk/cms_images/player/leroy-fer-training-0264-2405351.jpg please log in to view this image AWAY WIN: Fer was on target in our 2-0 victory at Sunderland before suffering knee injury “I hope to be 100 per cent ready for the West Ham game,” Fer confirmed to www.qpr.co.uk “I have already been doing some training with the first-team, and I hope to be training fully with the group from Monday. “West Ham is my target and I hope to be involved. “I don’t want to say how many minutes I will be able to play if I am involved, but I will try to do everything I can until I can’t anymore. “With just five games to go, I just want to throw everything into these games.” The R’s have played eight times in Fer’s absence, and found points difficult to come by despite producing some hugely encouraging displays. image: http://www.qpr.co.uk/cms_images/player/leroy-fer-training-0164-2405350.jpg please log in to view this image DETERMINED: Fer has been working hard to be fit for the run-in “It has been really frustrating to watch from the sidelines,” Fer added. “We have played really well but only picked up four points in the games I have missed. You really want to be able to help the team, so it’s been hard.” Playing just behind Bobby Zamora at Sunderland, Fer was at his creative best. After netting the opener, he played a crucial role in QPR’s win at the Stadium of Light before he sustained the injury. With that advanced central position being his preferred role, and having spent much of the season on the left of midfield, it has made Fer’s time out of the side even more difficult to accept. “To finally play in my position, it was even harder to be out,” he admitted. “I felt I played a really good game, but unfortunately then got the injury. “The gaffer has told me that he wants to play me in that position again, and I am giving it 100 per cent every day so I can be ready for West Ham. “But the most important thing is that I want to help the team, and if the gaffer needs me to play on the left then of course I will do that. We have to try to win every game that we can between now and the end of the season.” After the West Ham fixture, Rangers face trips to Liverpool and Man City before hosting Newcastle in west London. The season concludes at fellow-relegation battlers Leicester City. And Fer remains convinced QPR have what it takes to survive. “We have some hard games but I think we can do it because we have been playing well,” he said. That is indeed a big billy bonus. As you say 9's if he can play like he was then this will be like a new signing for us and could be just what we need to avoid the drop.
Leroy Fer played in his correct position is a hell of a player, so hopefully he can play some part in the Hammers game.
He could be a big hero in these five games. He seems really up for it as I am sure he still remembers how relegation hurts.
I'm a big fan of Fer's and he's saying all the right things. Not sure if it'll be best to play him from the start until he begins to flag of bring him on when he has a feel for the speed of the game. I'd guess the week of full training should dictate that.
Which is highly unlikely of course. When players return from a long lay off, it usually takes quite a few games for them to regain fitness and form.
This is another problem. If Fer plays behind the striker, then it's hard to see how we can play two up front, unless we go three at the back.
Can't see it will be enough to prevent the inevitable, but where there's life there's hope, I suppose. At least he'll be in good shape when we sell him
