You're doing him a disservice. What about Richardson, Dummett and Inman? SIX and we haven't even got to pre-season yet. Fcking minty.

What have you learned from the performances from the French lot this year?

The English players are imperative due to their heart and commitment. Foreign flair is appreciated and also beneficial but having more than 10 foreign players will be bad for the traditions of English football and bad for our national team and it also compromises the integrity of the club.

More about the character of the individual, regardless of nationality. Was Vieira a shirker? Owen a leader? The job of the management team is, in my opinion, to address this significant problem we have in our team of a lack of leadership.

    I disagree here.
It's not about nationality at all.
It's about team and individual confidence.
I saw Saylor's head drop a few times as I did with quite a few of our lads across the park.
The season before, we were all having a ****fest about some of our French lads weren't we? They don't go bad overnight.

I don't necessarily think the french lads lack heart to be honest. You get all types from all nationalities. There is no doubt though as an English club we should have a core of English/British lads. Its a very successful strategy. Lets face it, Bobby, Mourinho, SAF can't all be wrong. They all highlight it as a key part of their initial strategy and saw it through. Bobby with the like of Bellamy, Shearer, Speed, Given, Woodgate, Dyer, Jenas. SAF over many years, Jose with Terry, Cole, Lampard, Cole. There has to be something in it for the greats to go this route.

Even Mancini and Wenger spoke about it, and to a certain extent follow it.

They know what the game here is about. To me it is important in terms of integrity, the national team and also maintaining the soul/identity of our football.

We need to get the levels up around 60/40 in terms of English players sooner rather than later. Whether that is a reason for Newcastle as an individual to purchase only on that basis right now is debatable. If you can get the numbers you need in for the right amount of money while maintaining quality then fair enough. However the figures bandied about often suggest not.

I'd love nothing more than to see us in the market for the likes of Ince, Redmond, McManaman, Austin, Rhodes, Hooper, Dunk, Maguire, McCarthy, Hughes but I think we are more interested in the business side of things. It appears in most of those cases we could pick up a less risky established international who will be worth treble in a years time. I wouldn't slate the french lads as "a bit soft", they just take time to adapt. This would be the same if English players went abroad, they'd have to rein in their physicality. Not that they couldn't cope as foreigners do here, you only have to look at the success of Barton at Marseille.

If he's injury prone we really shouldn't even be considering him. We already have Marv, HBA and Saylor who are almost guaranteed lengthy injury periods every season. We need more players who can stay fit not ones with a track record of breaking down over and over again.
