L'Equipe are this morning reporting that we've already made an approach for St Ettiene manager Christophe Galtier.

He had them challenging for a Champions League Spot up until a few weeks ago, which is a very good achievement given they sold Aubameyang in the summer without getting a big name replacement. Haven't watched too much French football this season so if anyone knows much about the guy or how his team play then feel free to share.

Not sure how reliable L'Equipe are either, but hopefully they know something about Pardew that we don't!

I always had L'Equipe pegged as a highly reliable source? Or am I getting that wrong?

L'Equipe are usually bang on with their 'rumours'. A bit like Sky Sports and their sources.

This will most probably have legs.

National Daily Sports Newspaper so should be fairly reliable.

Leading French daily L’Equipe are reporting on Friday that Newcastle and Aston Villa have already approached St Etienne manager Christophe Galtier with the intent of getting the coach to sign on at their clubs before the start of next season.

The news comes the day after the Les Verts manager publicly questioned his future at St Etienne in a press conference on Thursday.

Galtier, 47, is currently under contract at ASSE until 2016, however their are now doubts whether the coach will stay on for that long. The manager is also known to have a release clause in his contract.

    The manager said on Thursday:

My duty, my obligation and my dedication is that I have to prepare for next season. But nothing is certain.

I have to meet with the owners at the end of the season. Today, I believe the team is progressing. I have to see if we can still improve. I have questions for my bosses, I think they’ll have precise answers. They also are likely to ask me questions.

With Christophe Galtier’s future at St Etienne in the balance, the rumour mill is suggesting that Newcastle and Aston Villa are ready to pounce.

That's my first reaction. I got the news from FootballDirect (lol) - nice one Mike. But, yes, L'Equipe often pride themselves on bringing news first. Actual news, rather than spurious rumours. The fact this didn't turn up from a Newcastle blog site or somewhere like tribal football/clubcall/talksh!te gives me serious hope.

    So who knows about him??

He likes a quick passing game, based around a pacey striker. Likes to use wingers a lot as well.

    Oh heaven!
If true, I can see Shola being the water bottle carrier at best.
Even with that, players will dehydrate before Mr concrete boots gets to them.

Sadly this is probably true. They like to nip any positivity in the bud nice and quickly.

Villa apparently in too.... this is starting to smell a bit like bull

Newcastle and Aston Villa both want to make Christophe Galtier their new manager and have made approaches, according to reports in France.

The pair of Premier League sides have sounded out the Frenchman about taking over, claims L’Equipe.

The reports suggest that despite under-fire Alan Pardew having a long-term contract at St James’ Park and Paul Lambert having avoided relegation with Villa, they both face the sack if Galtier agrees to join them.

Les Verts’ boss has had to answer question about his future at a press conference on Thursday.

He said: “My duty, my obligation and my dedication is that I have to prepare for next season. But nothing is certain.

“I have to meet with the owners at the end of the season. Today, I believe the team is progressing. I have to see if we can still improve.

“I have questions for my bosses, I think they’ll have precise answers. They also are likely to ask me questions.”

The 47-year-old is under contract until 2016, but has a well-documented release clause in the that deal.
