CAFC are trying to make his move permanent come January. Thoughts?

I think it's a good move as long as its either a free or a very nominal. Very good back up and better to have him on a 18 month contract than another 6 months.

Of our three loan players, Cort is the only one I'm relaxed about keeping, as I think we'd face problems if Morrison or Taylor were injured/suspended for any length of time. Getting him free or for a nominal fee would be a bonus. <ok>

Since when was Guyana in Africa?

Wrong. They have to play Mexico, Costa Rica and El Salvador, all home and away, and the matches continue to October 2012. Apart from any friendly matches he wants to play and Charlton agree to his playing.

Nonetheless I think he would be a great signing provided he doesn't cost too much in fees/wages and we would be lucky to have a player of that quality willing to sit on the bench. In fact, I suspect he is a better player than Taylor, certainly much more experienced, though I wouldn't want to rock the boat when things are going so well.

If he comes to us he'll be in the Championship next season anyway.

eddie, you say Cort is a better player than Taylor, what do you base that on?

Also, Taylor is 29, Cort is 32 - that's hardly a significant difference in terms of experience.

Cort has been playing League football for ten years and has made 350 appearances, a lot of them at a higher level than Div One.

Taylor has been playing League football for three years and has made 114 appearances, none of them above Div One. (And his playing days in non-league were mostly as a goalkeeper).

So, yes, there is a gulf in experience, but I realise that is only one of many criteria.

My post certainly wasn't intended as a dig at Matt, who has been one of our (many) success stories and his partnership with Morrison is the rock on which our success is built. Just to say that we mightn't look a lot inferior if Cort had to come in for a run of matches. I am not suggesting making a change unless we had to.

We need someone to cover CB. Doc is past it and the youngsters aren't ready yet. I don't see where we could hope to get anyone better to sit on the bench and who apparently is happy here.

I think at our level of football having players who know, and are happy in, the area is more important than at upper levels. Players earning millions can mostly settle anywhere so long as they are awash with cash, but at our level it is significant how many players go back to their home areas in the latter stages of their careers.

The reverse can be true, which is why I have never been all that confident Stephens will stay with us for long. I could be wrong, I hope I am.

That's fair enough, my post certainly wasn't supposed to be anti-Cort, who seems to have done more than ok in his few appearances for us so far. How relaxing it is, not to be having kittens every week about our CB pairing after the Old Age Pensioner Show of last season.

I agree we need cover at CB, and Cort seems to be the answer.

    In CP we trust.

I agree with Tewks. Without getting ahead of ourselves, any signing we now make apart from short term loans or very short contracts need to be players who we think could do a job zin the championship. Jury out on that front for me re Corr. But his patience and to cover without rocking the boat persuades me that we should offer him 18 months.

I have always rated Mambo but our managers will not give him a run. He is doing very well at Ebbsfleet

Me too, AHLL. I rate Mambo, but if he's not going to get a game in div. 3 he's unlikely to get a game in div. 2.
