Scunthorpe loanee Leon Clarke sees no Charlton future Having a moan that he never got an opportunity. Hopefully we can offload him during January.
I keep pinching myself to make sure I'm not dreaming, and Leon Clarke has really left our glorious football club. Bye Leon. You won't be missed.
I hear stories that he is a bit of an outcast and a tad on the weird side. This is a good thing, no loss here.
Strange one this, as i dont really think he would lie about what was said to him. But i cannot fathom what drugs Sir Chris must have been taking if he really did say that if Clarke performed well "the shirt was his to lose". The quicker he goes on a permanent the better, to think we pushed out Benson for him and then even let Hayes go, both of which were better players.
Right, Jimmy. How thick is this bloke? Not getting a chance at your current club (the reason is irrelevant); go to another club and make an immediate impact; immediately mouth off about your old club - what's the point? Stay there, score goals, keep your mouth shut, get transferred - then mouth off. Easy stuff. If I were a vindictive person, which I'm not or a member of the CAFC management, which I'm not I'd recall him at the earliest opportunity and make him train with the reserves and play in the development side for the rest of his contract. Oooh, I'm hard, me...
What he's really saying is 'Hey, clubs, look I'm scoring goals and I'm available for cheap, look, look, buy me in January, you won't have to pay Charlton much, but I'd like a nice signing-on fee.'
Surely he would be in a better position to negotiate a good contract and/or signing on fee if he knuckled down and played well, and left with Charlton's blessing, rather than continuing to enhance his reputation as a square peg.
After the Di Canio incident, I think he'd find it very difficult to shake the reputation. So I think the thing that will maximise his sign-on fee and likely wages is if he impresses enough as a pure goalscorer for a club to sign him permanently in January or after his contract expires in May. Obviously that goes against what I would like as a Charlton fan, but I'd say this plays into his best interests, if he backs himself to score a good lot of goals for the Iron. Or I could have it completely wrong and he's been ambushed by a reporter and didn't know what to say
