“I want to set high standards for ourselves. The next challenge for us as a club is to establish ourselves in the EPL. “We're not going to make up the numbers. We want to be competitive. We've tasted success now. It's important we continue to improve everything about ourselves. So, we can challenge for the top five. http://www.iol.co.za/sport/soccer/p...5-premier-league-place-1.1687412#.U3Ht0n-9KSN I give Pearson 6 months.
Precisely my first thoughts. If they're bottom 5 at Christmas he'll be gone and they'll appoint a 'big name'. In fact he'll do very well not to get the sack.
Sad but true. Then again if he signs an expensive player he deserves it of course, regardless of where they finish.
I wont feel that sorry for him, he's a brilliant manager who will walk into another job. I've always thought he would end up at Wendies or Boro but Im not sure either have the financial muscle. Maybe Wolves if Jackett doesnt have them top 7 come Christmas?
As you might have guessed, the BBC have sensationalised this to the maximum. Vichai doesn't ever say that the goal is top 5 in 3 years. The original interview was held with the Bangkok Post. http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/sports/409485/leicester-city-desperate-to-capitalise "We should be able to stay there for at least two or three years and then my next goal will be taking the team to the top five or six in the Premier League". It's a shame that the English media has such hatred towards foreign Football Club owners but what can you do? According to them they're all crazy bastards who expect instant success. That couldn't be further from the truth with our guys. I'm really annoyed at how the BBC have portrayed them, they've made them sound like the next Tony Fernandes or Vincent Tan or Assem Allam.
Without Mr Allam, (a naturalised local by now), Hull City would probably at best be on the way to non league football or at worst total extinction.
i'm totally sick of hearing and reading this **** - why would City be extinct without Allam - we were £30 mill in debt - Bolton are 6 times higher than that - are they extinct - what about Pompey - are they extinct - stop talking **** - we would have survived and but in a lower league - now Allam has converted us from a team £30mill in debt to one which is £100 mill in debt we are significaltly more likely to plummet than we were before Allam - lets just hope he converts the debt into equity as he promised - ps i'm not holding onto my breath
I hope you're right (or rather I don't, if you're in competition with us) but the PL seems to turn all owners into ****s. Every PL team seems to believe they're too good for a relegation battle and sacks their manager at some point. It's like they don't realise that 3 teams have to go down no matter what.
I see you conveniently choose to ignore the winding up order placed on the club which forced Allam to rush through the purchase. We weren't just likely to plummet until Allam stepped in, it was a cast iron guarantee.
Is that what they think is the truth in Withernsea? Just another reason the raise it to the ground then.
So for once the Beeb puts a negative spin on a story about Leicester (balancing the fawning of Lineker, Maneesh and Claridge that have all endured on an almost weekly basis for the past several seasons) and it's "sensationalised to the maximum." Had they put the article in a positive light, it would of course have been perfectly true and accurate!
winding up orders are a means to an end - they've been used before and they'll be used again as a way of getting someone to play ball - in City's case it worked - in most cases it works - speaking off the top and i havent checked my facts but what about Portsmouth, Kilmarnock Hereford and now Leeds - all served all still in existence
Still in existence yes - but certainly in the cases of Pompey, TWS and probably Hereford, hardly where they would expect to be in the league pyramid. Anyway, why turn this into another thread of pro or anti Allam when we can have much more fun laughing at Leicester being in the top 5 in three years time
I may be wrong but I believe all of those clubs had some sort of assets to fall back on, where as we had absolutely bugger all.
