Preston North End defender Sean St Ledger has completed his widely expected transfer to Leicester. The 26-year-old has signed a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee becoming Sven-Goran Eriksson's fourth summer signing. The Republic of Ireland international follows Lee Peltier, Neil Danns and Kasper Schmeichel through the door at the Walkers Stadium. The move brings St Ledger's five-year spell at Deepdale to a close following North End's relegation to League One. Eriksson told the club's website: "I am very pleased that Sean will be joining us. "He expressed a real desire to play for Leicester and I believe he will have a positive impact. "He is a very good defender and has proved that in league football but also on the international stage."
"He expressed a real desire to play for Leicester." ---------------------------------------------------------- Unlike CMS I wonder?
Solid signing. Always does well for Ireland. Who will he be playing with though? Bamba/Tunchev/Mills/Mee/Vitor??
I think Sven will drive us all mad by rotating the squad next season, hence many players in every position.
Fourth signing, with Masilela on his way (hopefully) to make 5. Its amazing how infuriated we have become at the lack of signings, but have made more than any other Championship club (I think). Stringer has just said at the death of the forum he wouldnt be surprised if we announce a signing per day during the rest of the week. Bit hopeful that, but still more to come.
Rob Tanner thinks the Matt Mills saga will be other 1 way or another by the end of the week. David Nugent could sign anytime. Nicky Maynard would take time probaly with us needing to agree a fee and then wages, medical etc
Rumour is now David Nugent will be announced as a Leicester player tommorow, i know this rumours been going around but he is really good mates with Sean St Ledger so maybe it will go through now
Sven having a bitchy dig at disinterested players, like it Even Kingy said he expected there to be a rotation policy this season. On the one hand it's good that Sven will be looking for quality and backup with similar quality in every position. On the other hand I think team spirit is vital for a promotion side, as is competition for places. I think it's important to have a first starting 11 based on merit, with obviously the door open to the fringe players if they prove themselves. The other thing with a rotation policy is that some players will obviously stand out from others - so by rotating you are essentially weakening your team.
How many times have we hear this... Having said that, most still seem to think it will happen even after all the delay. So it fills me with some hope that it will happen.
A good signing i believe even if we bring in mills he would be one hell of an upgrade from some of the players we have had on the bench in recent time
Come to think of it, obviously the only reason we signed St Ledger was so he could convince Nugent to come. It all makes sense now
Not neccessarily, i mean, players have "bad patches" ... some players may need resting ... like last season, Waggy was impressing and looked like he was going to get his chance untill he got injured at the wrong time. I'd rather have a squad than to rely on a starting 11.
