Leicester City's bid for Craig Mackail-Smith accepted by Peterborough Monday, June 27, 2011 Leicester City have had a bid accepted for Peterborough United striker Craig Mackail-Smith. City have emerged as the front-runners to land the 27-year-old after he turned down moves to Premier League new boys Queens Park Rangers and Norwich City. West Ham are also in negotiations for the prolific forward but Posh have yet to accept an offer from the Hammers for him. Posh director of football Barry Fry confirmed Mackail-Smith was now in talks with City. "We have accepted a bid from Leicester," said Fry. "Their manager Sven-Goran-Eriksson is out of the country at the moment, but was due to speak to Craig over the weekend. "I have had several conversations with West Ham, but we have turned down their bid. I am certain they will be back. "Craig is facing a tough decision. He turned down Norwich and he has now turned down QPR." City are still in the hunt for several potential signings. Talks are on-going with goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, and he could even agree a deal imminently. The 24-year-old Dane posted a video on his Twitter account yesterday after a hacker had posted on his behalf saying he was staying at Leeds United, who accepted a £1 million bid from City last week. Schmeichel denies he is not interested in a move to City. However, City are keeping all their goalkeeping options open. City look close to landing South African left-back Tsepo Masilela on a season-long loan from Israeli side Maccabi Haifa this week. "Everything has been agreed in principle for him to go to Leicester," a source is quoted as saying. "I would guess that everything will be signed off next week." Talks are also on-going with former England striker David Nugent, and City could also mount another bid to sign Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard. Talks are also progressing with Preston over a possible transfer of centre-back Sean St Ledger, and City are chasing North Korea international striker Jong Tae-Se. http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/Le....ail/story. html
If it is true, it's presumably about money - he might have turned down Norwich because he feared he would sit on the bench, but there isn't the same competition between strikers at QPR
Cant believe he turned us down! Whats going on here when we cant even attract a player who was playing League 1 last year!
...but who would want to go to a club where the lunatics are running the asylum...I just hope NW's patience holds...
personally i would rather bid for Nicky Maynard than GMS and I do wonder sometimes whether clubs make "arrangements" where If I don't bid for so and so, you can but don't bid for player we are interested in. The other "thing" to consider wih GMS is whether he feels he is a premier league player and maybe just needs another seasn in the championship? also Sean St Ledger - disappointed with haven't made a cheeky little bid for this player.......

Picture: David Lowndes/Peterborough ET By Alan Swann Published on Monday 27 June 2011 10:54 Championship rivals Leicester City and West Ham have emerged as favourites to land Posh striker Craig Mackail-Smith. Club director of football Barry Fry has confirmed that Posh have accepted a bid for their prize asset from Leicester and that they are also in negotiations with West Ham. Mackail-Smith has already rejected the chance to move into the Premier League with Norwich City and QPR. Fry also confirmed that Posh are hoping to sign Manchester United midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe on loan for the entire season and that an offer has been made to out-of-contract Yeovil defender Craig Alcock. Fry said: “We have accepted a bid from Leicester. Their manager Sven Goran Eriksson is out of the country at the moment, but was due to speak to Craig over the weekend. “I have had several conversations with West Ham, but we have turned down their bid. I am certain they will be back. “Craig is facing a tough decision. He turned down Norwich and he has now turned down QPR. “Craig met QPR manager Neil Warnock and was impressed with him, but he wanted assurances that Neil would still be manager at the start of the season and didn’t get them. “Ryan Tunnicliffe is a player we are interested in and the manager is trying to secure his services for the season. “We have also spoken to Craig Alcock. He is a player we like as he can play at right-back, centre-back or in midfield, but he has just had an operation and is out for four weeks. “Ideally we want three or four new players here in time for them to fly out with the first team squad to their training camp in Portugal next weekend.” Posh are understood to want in the region of £3 million for Mackail-Smith. Wigan and Everton have also been linked with the 27 year-old. Tunnicliffe is a 19 year-old central midfielder who was awarded a professional contract at Old Trafford on his 17th birthday after graduating from United’s Academy system. He has yet to make a Football League appearance. Alcock (23) has made over 100 appearances for Yeovil, his sole professional club.
Dont really rate CMS anyway, no big loss imo though I stand to be corrected if he scores 40goals in the Championship next season. We need a target man, CMS is about 5ft 0 and has zilch hold up play ability. I see Bothroyd hasn't signed anywhere yet, he is a far better proposition imo and we should be doing all we can to secure him.
“Craig met QPR manager Neil Warnock and was impressed with him, but he wanted assurances that Neil would still be manager at the start of the season and didn’t get them." Surely that can't possibly be true!!!
I would much rather we went for a player with Premership experience, but the question is who and can we afford his wages
what an idiot!! forget him... doesnt want to play in the premiership??? ... id rather get bothroyd to be honest
Won't Bothroyd ask the same question Mackail-Smith asked? : Bothroyd - "Can you assure me that you'll be manager when the season starts, Mr Warnock?" NW - "It'll either be me, Jay, or being honest, if I've jumped ship by then, it'll be someone Mr Briatore appoints in my place..Jay..!Jay...! Come back...!"
Never felt it with this guy anyway. Offered the chance and turned us down? **** him (lunatics or not)!
