That's an unfair poll having to choose one or the other.

Voting for both should be allowed.

    Nolan by a mile.

Nolan was a major reason we got promoted, Barton barely played in the Championship due to injury. Nolan scored a hattrick against Sunderland and also scored and their place too, he was the perfect foil for Carroll. Barton is also a legend, but for me it's an easy answer.

I've gone Nolan. The derby hatty swings it for me. Nolan frustrated the hell out of me at times. There were plenty of games in the championship I thought he was bang average at best. He delivered a shed load of goals though (18?). I actually thought Guthrie was better than him in the fizzy pop and as many on here know, I was not a fan of Guthrie at all. However Nolan improved the year we went up funnily enough. I'd imagine his goals to game ratio was maybe a smidgeon better in the PL?

Barton was at the club a long time and didn't make a lot of appearances. I think he did tremendously well to bounce back, and he was a big part of our revival in the fizzy pop despite not being available. He along with the likes of Nolan, Smith, Harper helped us to sort out our mess.

I just think Nolan brought less controversy, and every bit as much on the pitch and off it. Add in the hat trick on Halloween, he takes it for me. Both displayed a lot of what we have been missing in more recent times.

This <ok>. Nolan was the leader we needed at the time we needed someone to step up and take control. He came and showed what a real leader on the pitch was.

    Michael Owen take note.

My head says that both were great for us on the pitch, but that Nolan played a much more important role.

My heart tells me that Joey still types '5under1and' when he tweets and still engages with fans even after all of this time away and that this somehow puts him on a pedestal that wins every single time. My heart had the last word even though my head is telling me that makes no sense.

Barton was the better all round player, but Nolan scored about 30 goals in 2 vital seasons for us, and was a great captain. Barton got stupid suspensions and was injured for most of the championship season.

Nolan for me, but Barton is the better player.

Barton wasn't really very good for us at all. A handful of decent games. Nolan was consistently good for us, despite the slagging off that he got from a large number of fans. I can't believe there is even a debate on which was the better player for our club or even who is the better player full stop.

At the time I thought that he was actually aiming the ugly girl comment at the UKIP bint, in an underhand sort of way. I can't image they'll be inviting him back any time soon.

<laugh> Well she certainly isn't the least ugly girl at any party <laugh>

I still don't get how his verbalisation can be considered actually offensive. He didn't call women everywhere ugly. Are we not allowed to say that there are ugly women? It seems a bit hypocritical for them to take advantage of this hypothetical situation. Really, if one were to take it literally, it's more a case of offensive to gentlemen, that they could be stereotyped into being so desperate to get their willy wet they'll pick an unattractive lady, purely because she's less unattractive than others available.

Really though, a lot of people need to stop being so offended by the fact men care about visual aesthetic. Women care about it too, or they would go around ****ing their friends all the time. Quelle surprise. There will be a backlash one day on the equality front (which has swung much too far the other way in some regards in my opinion), where people who get their backs up over such an innocuous comment will be rightly castigated.

It's actually extremely effective as a metaphor. Because if you were inclined to such actions, you may pick someone on the basis of appearance and end up being attached to a psycho who makes your life, and that of your friends worse, for one moments gratification, which is ultimately what a vote for UKIP was.
