Looks nothing like he former self, but he is an icon of anyone born in the 90s. http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/world-of-sport/article/53126/
One of the best ever, no doubt. Watching him take apart man United at Old Trafford was a joy to behold back in 2003. What a player.
The greatest striker of all time in my opinion, he didn't have a weakness in his game and to watch him at his imperial best was something to behold, you see the likes of Messi and C. Ronaldo running defences ragged, but he would destroy defences week in week out and win games on his own even at the tender age of 21/22. they didn't know how to handle him. What makes him more remarkable is the fact his career threatening injuries, he still managed to perform at the highest level, still scoring goals and breaking records - something a lesser player wouldn't of been able to do. One of the all time greats no doubt! 'El Phenomeno!'
Its easy to say "look how fat that man is" without knowing the reasons behind it. Try and be a bit more tolerant. I have no doubt that if it werent for his awful knee injuries he would have claimed the best of all time crown. Just a sublime player. But apparently it was the rapid movement of his knees in his tradmark moves to bamboozle the opposition that caused th injuries. His body just couldn't take the punishment his skill put it though. His weight problem is reportedly due to thyroid problems caused by the cocktail of medication he had to take to kill pain, reduce swelling and basically hold his joints together. His Real Madrid days was him displaying around 50% of his true ability and was still most of the time unplayable. Sir Bobby nurtured a gem there, pity he couldn't get him on Tyneside
One of the Greatest Ever. FACT. Idolized him in the 90's when in my early teens (ahem) Always remember the Nike advert where the Brazil team are playing football in the airport. Great Memories.Great Player.
Sadly it will be France 98 that a lot of people may remember him for..... not me though.. great player an one of those you tell your grand kids about...
Probably one of the best strikers ever and if he didn't have all those injuries we may have been saying now one of the best players ever
To the people commenting on his weight I refer you back to my first post. His weight gain was brought on by an underactive thyroid issue which was a result of medication he was taking for his injuries.
