Do we really NEED a new one? Apart from cover? I think Raylor looks pretty strong, of course making some mistakes now and again he's only human, but what he can bring in the terms of free kick and some danger on the attack.

If we're looking at anyone who should be replaced it's Simpson, the guy can't make his mind up and often leaves us in trouble. He played dreadful against Scunthorpe and I've never rated the lad. Maybe we should sign a LB and shift Raylor to the RB position.

I shall now await the hate.

He wasn't very good for me other than his free kick and a couple of crosses (which a new LB should be capable of replacing).

Him and Simmo are the weak links for us at the back atm.

Like I said on another thread, Simpson needs competition to give him hte boot up the backside he needs, far too complacent.

As far as the LB situation goes, Pieters should be done over the next couple of days.

Do we have a player called Gregg then we can have Gregg and Pieters. Ashley would be in heaven

Think Raylor has only coped during our prem games due to the fact jonas does so much defensively to help him out.
    Definitely need a recognised LB.

Raylor has coped but I want a proper LB in then Raylor can properly push Simpson for the RB slot and give him the boot up the arse he needs.

I follow what you're all saying and agree. I think Pardew openly saying Raylor is hard to replace might be a hint to Simpson he'll be replacing you if you don't book up.

Both fullbacks were dreadfull last night. Ryan Taylor only redeamed himself because of that freekick, but you cant be making the mistakes those two kept making against premiership teams week in, week out.

Jonas gets wasted when he has to cover for Taylor all of the time. At least Pieter is defensively sound which will allow who ever plays on the left wing to get forward and not worry too much.

Definately need a lb. I would be tempted to rotate squad tho considering how poor Simpson was last night and Raylor's goals! Give him a shot in midfield (if Barton goes).

Was thinking this. Since Barton wont play it must be Raylor or Marveaux to start on the right? (Or Obertan I suppose.)

Was I watching a different game??? Thought he was poor. Couple of crosses and runs that's it. Gave the ball away alot with some hoof passes and went missing a few times. He needs time before having regular starts.

Wait..he wasn't even playing on the wing, he was playing midfield behind the strikers, Lovenkrands was playing on the right wing for second half wasn't he? Marveaux looked strong on the ball, dribbled past the defence well and looked dangerous considering he's not played in ages and was shoved into a match for 120 minutes he done brilliantly.

...regardless of how he performed last night my point was I don't think he's quite ready for regular prem starts!!
