Just wondered what people's opinions were on the left back position. Most of us are agreed that we need somebody to come in there. Below I've listed those (reportedly, at least) linked with us: Pereira Baines Enrique Jansen Cissokho Izaguirre I'd like to know three things, and your reasons why, if possible: Out of the above, who do you want the most? Who do you want the least? Who do you think we'll actually get, if any? Feel free to throw in a name not listed here. I'd personally like Baines. He fits our criteria of young and British, but he's also probably the best player on that list to boot. The one I'd least like is probably Enrique. He hasn't really impressed me as much as Baines has. However, I've only seen bits of the other four. That being said, I think Enrique is the likeliest to come. Although I said I'd least like him, that's only out of those listed, who are all brilliant LBs. He'd still be a great asset, and we could do far worse in this position (and in fact have done so the last couple of times).
Who do I want the most? It's between Baines and Cissokho. Baines is the best left-back in that list but Cissokho is the best value, in my opinion. If finance wasn't a issue and Everton would sell to us, it's Baines for me. Who do I want the least? Izaguirre. He has only been at Celtic for a year and is on a long-term contract so would command a significant fee. I know it has been said a lot but Scottish football is not the best, so there would be questions marks over his ability to perform at the highest level. Still a good player though. Who do I feel we will get? Enrique or Cissokho. A lot depends on how mcuh Newcastle want. If they are asking for £10M and above for a player in his final year, I feel we might go for Cissokho.
None, save the money and put it towards a decent backup striker or centre half Use Johnson,Aurelio,Insua,Kelly,Flannagan,Robinson to cover the full back positions all perfectly adequate. Johnson can be the forward thinking option on either right or left, plenty of wide support coming from midfield with Downing,Kuyt,Cole,Henderson etc and then Suarez drifting wide Defo need an experienced centre half and back up striker If one of our two main strikers gets an injury and is out for a couple of months we are defo struggling with the only chance to get replacements in half way through the season in January and strikers don't come cheap at that time of year!!Especially when people see you are desperate!
Out of the above, who do you want the most? If i was you I'd probably perfer Baines the most as hes a good crosser of the ball, good at free kicks and a good deffender to boot, not to mention hes quite young and british, problem is the fact that hes british and plays for your rival, its going to cost you about 20m or so to get him. Would be a solid signing though Who do you want the least? Izaguirre, i dont honestly think hes that good and like chris said hes only on his first year at celtic and its not really going to be good value for money Who do you think we'll actually get, if any? ] You'll probz get enrique as hes got prem league experince, is a solid deffender and good crosser of the ball, and hes not to expensive.
Who do you want? Either Baines or Cissoko. Baines for me is one of the Premier League's best left backs and to have him in the side would be great, but Everton may not wish to sell him. Then it's all about Cissoko who is a great attacking option, less great defensively but still passable and also would be good value for money. Who do you least want? Izaguirre. In my opinion he is worse than Insua and would be a waste of money. Who do you think we will actually get? Probably Cissoko. I can just see Newcastle thinking they drain us of £35m for Carroll and they can do it again. Dalglish wont play ball second time round and if Lyon want less for Cissoko then he'll end up a Liverpool player
