http://www.leeds.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=282558 Interesting! Could this be the long awaited match against Chelsea? Or could it be spurs? There the only two I could think of which would cause the fixture announcement to be delayed. Unless of course its Bayern
Probably. Cant see Abramovich wanting to do any kind of business with Bates ever again. Once bitten and all that
It's Bayern Munich. They are waiting to see if they win the European Cup on Saturday as they have agreed to a rematch of the 1975 final, after which they will hand the trophy over to it's rightful owners. I have this from a reliable source that I can't name but it's true.
Not sure about handing over the trophy, but a pre-season "friendly" against Bayern would be interesting. Judging by what might be awaiting Chelsea fans, me thinks WYP might insist on restricted ticket allocations & full segregation were the game to be played in Yorkshire.
So the schedule looks like: Monday July 23 Tavistock A 7pm Wednesday July 25 Bodmin Town A 7pm Friday July 27 Torquay United A 7pm Wednesday August 1 Sandefjord A 7pm local time Burton on some weeknight. Something to do with Champions League finalists (probably Bayern Reserves at Elland Road on a Thursday afternoon). Anyone off to any of these? I quite fancy Torquay, but not sure if I should just save the money for a competitive game instead. Maybe go to Guiseley/Garforth/Farsley/Wakey/BPA/York if they put on a local gme.
Save it for the big games like Cup Winners York City. You can't beat a ground full of Leeds United fans apart from the 15 City fans who are hard as nails and want to kick off.
Im going down cornwall for the week, only camping so it wont be too much money. And the friendly is against newcastle (like almost every year) if chelsea lose
Why so ? Don't Newcastle get into the Europa League whatever happens ? They finished 5th so would qualify as the highest place team if Chelsea lose (because the top 4 would then be in the Champions League). If Chelsea win they go into the Champions League, meaning Spurs qualify for the Europa League as highest placed team. But because Chelsea also won the FA Cup their Europa League place would normally got to the runners-up - in this case Liverpool - but the scousers already qualify as winners of the Carling Cup. So the last Europa League place goes to the second highest placed team, which is Newcastle. Unless I've missed something ?
Ive heard that if chelsea lose, they get auto EL place, along with Liverpool for winning CC. Spurs get CL and newcastle have to qualify for EL meaning they cant play us. Not sure theres more than 2 auto EL spots but could be wrong
We get three EL places, one for each domestic cup winner and one for highest league place. So if Chelsea lose there would only be one place left via the league, hence Newcastle would get it. I would have thought that if Chelsea win (meaning Newcastle get EL via 2nd highest league placing) then I could understand if Newcastle might have to go into a qualifying round first. But who knows what convoluted rules the FA have on this. It was a lot easier when I were a lad - champions into the European Cup, FA Cup-winners into European Cup Winners Cup, League Cup winners and higher place league teams into Eufa Cup. Oh, and holders of all three European trophies got the right to defend it the following season regardless of where they finish in their domestic leagues/cups.
If Chelsea lose then Spurs are in the CL. Newcastle would be in the Europa, with Chelsea and Liverpool because of the cup wins If Chelsea win Spurs miss out and Chelsea take their place to defend the title. Spurs and Newcastle would be in the Europa. I think!!! I'm going for a rest, my brain hurts!
