Whilst getting one over on one of their adversaries would be very tempting, their bid for promotion back to the Championship must surely be top priority. They've invested wisely during the Summer, with two names that catch the eye. Mallik Willks and Lewie Coyle were both considered exciting players for the future, yet like so many, didn't quite make it!!! Marcelo Bielsa will certainly ring in the changes. It would be great to see some new faces! Who would you like to see play Hull? A mixture of first team and U23's Just U23's? First team? please log in to view this image
My team would be something like: Casilla Douglas Struijk Casey Hosannah McCalmont / Gotts Alioski Shackleton Roberts Poveda Rodrigo I think that's a good balance of youth and first team players needing minutes and should be good enough to get past Hull.
I read Cooper should be fit for the Fulham clash, if he is ready by Wednesday I would give him 30-45 minutes against Hull I also think it is important for Meslier Struijk and Koch to get a better understanding of each other, I'd start with: My team would be something like: Meslier Hosannah Douglas Struijk Koch Shackleton Bogusz Alioski Roberts Gelhardt Poveda
Casilla Dallas Struijk Ayling Douglas Koch (holding) Shack Roberts Alioski Rodrigo Poveda Have an experienced bench just in case.
U23s are playing tonight so will be interesting to see who plays and who plays for half the game. Anyone playing half the match will be involved for the Hull Game. Gotts, Stevens, Bogusz and McCalmont are all due to go out on loan and remember that Thursday is normally muderball so any first teamers playing Wednesday get to miss MB
Koch and Struijk should have another run out together, at least for 45 minutes. More minutes as a partnership will only help them.
Difficult to call what the team will be. As we all know, Bielsa's not so keen on change. If he does decide on playing some u23s, I don't think he'll pick anyone due to go out on loan, as the game time can be better spent benefiting this years' squad. So that (rumour has it) means no Bogusz, Gotts, or Stevens. He has a rookie CB pairing that needs more time together, and Coops is unavailable, so I think they'll be nailed on starters. The caveat is that if Hull play 2 up front, then we'll need 3 at the back, but I think we have the onfield flexibility to cover that possibility off. 'Keeper will almost certainly be Casilla. If he doesn't line up, it'll only be because he's leaving, imo. At LB, you would think that Douglas would be due some game time. IMO, this will only happen if Ayling is playing, to permit any move to 3 at the back, otherwise I'd expect Davis to be selected, with Dallas moving over to the right. I think Douglas is in front of Alioski on this one. Kalvin will play. With such a new CB pairing, we need the best cover possible in front on them. Wingers - I think Harrison & Costa will both be on the bench, allowing the selection of Poveda & Alioski. Midfield - Unless injured, I think Klick will start, possibly alongside Shackleton or Roberts - 2 out of the 3 imo. And to top it off, Rodrigo will get at least an hour, possibly more depending on his fitness on the Bielsa scale. So here it is ..... ................... Casilla Ayling ... Kock ... Struijk ... Douglas .................. Phillips Poveda ... Klick ... Roberts ... Alioski ................... Rodrigo
Neither Casey nor Cresswell are involved in the u23 match at Stoke - & yet we're playing 3 at the back! Clue for Dull match? Hmm.
Poveda will start as Bielsa knows the important game is against Fulham, so if Poveda is on one flank guaranteed to see Douglas at LB with Alioski in front of him. Be interesting to see what happens with Casey and Cresswell who were missing last night for the 23s which meant they had no CBs at all
