With Sheffield United not in action (at the Stadium of Light) until later in the evening, Daniel Farke’s men have an opportunity to create a five point gap between themselves and their South Yorkshire rivals as the season enters its crucial second half. After difficult matches against Burnley and West Brom, nothing less than three points will satisfy Blades boss Chris Wilder. Leeds will be acutely aware that achieving this won't be straightforward. Just over a month ago, Blackburn inflicted a painful defeat upon them, a result Farke will be eager to avenge on home turf. Since that victory, Rovers' form has stuttered, with losses against Hull City and Millwall sandwiching a draw with Sunderland inbetween, bringing their impressive winning streak of six games to an abrupt halt. Elland Road has once again become a fortress for the Whites, with nine consecutive home wins, seven clean sheets, and an impressive 24 goals scored during that dominant period. Blackburn, under the stewardship of John Eustace, were one of the few teams to breach that stronghold last season, with Sammie Szmodics proving the difference. Daniel Farke is expected to freshen up his attacking options, with Manor Solomon and Dan James likely to return to the starting XI in place of Largie Ramazani and Wilfred Gnonto. Leading marksman Joel Piroe is anticipated to spearhead the attack, edging out Mateo Joseph for the coveted centre-forward role. Positive news on the injury front sees Max Wober potentially returning to the bench after recovering from an ankle injury. Sam Byram is set to continue at left-back, deputising for the injured Junior Firpo. Midfielder Ilia Gruev remains the only long-term absentee for the Whites. Blackburn, however, face a more significant injury crisis. Forwards Arnor Sigurdsson and Zak Gilsenan are unavailable until the New year, likely paving the way for Tyrhys Dolan, Todd Cantwell, and Ryan Hedges to support Yuki Ohashi upfront. Defensive absentees in Scott Wharton, Harry Pickering, and Hayden Carter mean Callum Brittain, Dominic Hyam, Danny Batth, and Owen Beck are likely to form the defensive quartet. In midfield, the absence of Lewis Travis through injury suggests Lewis Baker and Sondre Tronstad will continue their partnership in the centre of the park.
Managed to get tickets in the East stand upper for this one. Tough game but we owe these ****ers. Scoring first is the key again.
I know there's some that refuse to give Farke credit for anything. Dispute this so. Byram was certainly one of Farkes selections and has been a resounding success. We knew about his injury record but he cost nothing. If he starts against Blackburn that'll be three games in a week. Terrific signing. Well done again Farkey
need to howk these. Got a bit of a personal agenda with this lot. never seen a team cheat and slow a game down so much when going 1-0 up the other week and the proper smash and grab last season at ER probably killed our hopes of top 2. PAY BACK TIME.
yeh Byram was a calculated risk but it’s turned out well for us… and him. Reliable option on either flank. Farke’s done great. Top of the league aren’t we last time I checked?
Blackburn are like a poor man’s Burnley. Well organised. Be good to not gift them a goal and see if we can score first for once… be nice to play them when they’re chasing the game and not rolling on the floor all match
We owe them big style as they’ve pinched the points in our last two meetings. I don’t dislike them as much as I do Preston, but hope we wipe the floor with them. It would signal we’re the team most believe we are, if we go on a run and open up a gap. Let’s start that run tomorrow.
Guest of honour at the club for Blackburn game, coming on the pitch at half time, so the fans can show their appreciation of his timevat the club.
Similar for me and my lad for the Norwich match. Had to book hospitality for my lads birthday treat. Quite like the seating as you get a great view of everything happening on the pitch. Just a pity you have to be so far away.
Only Man Utd (36) and Bolton Wanderers (32) have won more Football League games played on New Year’s Day than Blackburn Rovers (31).
Dropping Ampadu might be a mistake. Cantwell took the piss at Ewood Park. Ampadu would tuck him in his pocket more than Tanaka.
Afternoon all, Good rotation again from farke, plenty of quality on the bench. Makes sense to drop ampadu to the bench as he is just back from injury.
