Hey Everyone, I was just wondering what fellow fans thoughts are on the squad so far? In my opinion we are shaping up very well in the defence section but lack on the attacking and creative side. What kind of midfielder is Paul Green? Also really hoping this Austin deal can be struck as he looks a good player! MOT!!!
Hey Foxy, welcome to the Leeds board At least we are spending some money, sad to see Clayton go, and must admit I'll be gutted if White and McCormack say cheerio, but our defence is 100 times better.
The first thing Warnock must do in the wake of the takeover is take a second inventory and really think about who needs to be kept. No point rushing out there to make loads of transfers without getting our own affairs in order first. It's not going to be easy even for a motivator like Warnock to gel together a first XI with six or more new faces in it. These things take time, and I'd rather keep someone like Aidy White or Ross McCormack than pay the same for a new player who isn't already settled at Leeds. The areas of weakness are, or could be: Goalkeeper - Kenny's had injury problems over the last year and a half, and Warnock's stubborn insistence not to have a keeper on the bench makes me think he'll dump Lonergan to Bolton and all we'll be left with for back-up is Alex Cairns. Not good enough. This kid could be another Rachubka if Kenny gets injured, and could really **** things up for us. Right back - Connolly's probably gonna stay, and he'll be OK in reserve, but we need someone solid there. Peltier would be a good signing. Centre back - Lees can't be made to feel safe in the first team. He was weak for spells of last season, and another commanding presence next to Pearce would give me more confidence in our defensive core. Central midfield - still need two of them in my opinion. Now Clayton's been foolishly sold, all we have is Brown, Pugh and Green. None of them stand out in my eyes as players with promotion quality. They might have good engines and a touch of class in Brown's case, but this is the part of our team that cost us promotion in 2010-11. We can't afford to let it go unmended once again. Austin and a playmaker with a bit of stamina and grit please. Attack - the Robbie Rogers might have something to offer, and hopefully Snodgrass will go back to where he belongs on the wing, but we still need another man out wide to give our strikers better service. Behind the striker, an Adel Taarabt figure will possibly be on Warnock's mind, and we need a striker to push Becchio for his place as well. Not bloody Luke Varney and Andy Gray, PLEASE.
Hiya Foxy - No doubt about it the defence is better with just Pearce and Drury, add the possible signing of Peltier and it is a cracking defence. Hoping we get the Austin guy in midfield, get Snoddy to sign a new contract and we are half way there. Overall i'd say decent work in progress, the next few signings are important, Peltier and Austin I will be smiling, Norris and Gray and I won't feel so smug.
Woeful at present. If you ignore injured players and players who are transfer-listed or out of contract we are down to ......... GK Kenny Lonergan Cairns RB Thompson LB Drury Taylor CB Lees Pearce Kisnorbo RM Snodgrass Rogers CM Green LM Pugh FW Becchio McCormack Somma Given that Snodgrass and McCormaclk could also go we are left with........only 14 players. At present this squad may finish in a low-mid -table spot
Well Warnock is certainly building from the back, but our midfield has just got worse and worse in the last two years. Gradel going really exposed it for lack of quality. The squad so far is little better than mid-table with all of them fit. A few injuries - and given the age of most of the new signings, that's fairly likely - and this is a relegation team. Somma won't start the season and if McCormack goes we aren't going to score. If this "takeover" turns out to be another of Uncle Ken's magic tricks then we're basically screwed. The squad needs another 6 quality players to even think about contending for the playoffs.
We now need replacements for Clayton, Howson and Gradel who were all class players, yet all sold under their true value. Not sure when Howson's last contract was signed at Leeds, but certainly Clayton and Gradel will have been on low wages in terms of their ability as they were great finds by Grayson. We need a RB, Marsh includes Thompson there as he covered there at the end of last season, but lets not forget it's not his natural position and Warnock wanted to loan him out anyway. Same with Charlie Taylor as back up for Drury, he was meant to be loaned out by Warnock. With the expected sale of Lonergan, if no backup comes in we are risking it, although we secured McCarthy last season so wasn't a problem. West Ham did the same when Green was out and brought in Almunia. We basically have 2 CB's, Paddy and Bromby may as well be wrote off now. Finally McCormack shouldn't be sold as we are just changing players for the sake of it, rather than trying to actually improve. I feel this has happened with Clayton and as mentioned earlier you want players already settled at the club. Overall there is a lack of quality and quantity. So unless some real quality comes in over the next 4 weeks, we are going to be no better off than last season, but much more vulnerable to any injuries/suspensions.
Im happy with the way things are going so far. I know people are complaining about the small squad size but we haven't finished yet and I'd warrant a bet that we have been the most active in the transfer market so far. Warnock is building from the back and he has done well in that area, he hasn't made any attacking signings yet but he definitely will be
Hey foxy, good to have you here. Any chance you could change your moniker though? Realize it may be your surname but on a football forum it makes you look at first glance as a Leicester City fan. I think the squad looks more solid now than last season but completely lacks pace and flair so a boring mid table struggle of a season is likely without any classy players brought in
Very pleased with signings so far. Now Im going to tempt fate. I believe Snoddy will sign immediately after takeover is completed. There have been no rumblings about him being touted about to other clubs. He has already spoken out against Bates and said he wanted to play Premiership with Leeds provided they matched his opinion. I would suggest the resigning of Snoddy would put out a marker that we don't have to sell anymore and would have a large impact on our current season both on the pitch and in being able to attract other quality players. I just want to see the end to our pathetic wage structure. Ultimately, a lot of our players left in recent years simply because we weren't competing with anyones wage structures
And if he doesn't hopefully the new owners can afford to allow him to run down his contract and see how the season develops. Yes our midfield is nowhere near the quality of the one that started last season however signs are promising if we are looking at players like Austin, I hope we sign him and I can see him being a far better option than Clayton. Green is an unknown quantity, I just have my fingers crossed that we sign that WOW player for the left side of Midfield (assuming Snoddy reverts back to the right). I guess it also depends on White and where Warnock see's him playing...
Your middle name is LUFC? Astounding. Half of Facebook appear to have been registered at birth with football club acronyms in their name too. Welcome.
I think we will have a keeper on the bench now that we can use 7 instead of 5 subs. I'd love us to sign Charlie Austin as well as rodolph Austin. He'd be good up top with becchio.
No my middle name isn't LUFC but Foxy619 supposedly made me an automatic Leicester fan so that's why I have chosen the name! Thanks for the welcome
Snodgrass is off apparently... Fourth Official ‏@FourthOfficial_ Aston Villa are set to land Leeds player Robert Snodgrass #LUFC #AVFC
He's never got a single thing right regarding us. Claimed he was off to Norwich last summer. Just goes to show if you pretend to know things for long enough people will eventually start believing you.
It's weird reading twitter during a frenzy like this when you don't actually have it. Like being the only sane person in a sea of idiots, but you're mute.
