Hello all ... as I do each new season, here is a depth chart to show where our players can fit in, and how strong/weak we look in each area: GK - Silvestri .. Horton .. Turnbull RB - Berardi .. Byram .. Wootton LB - Taylor .. Berardi CB - Bamba .. Cooper .. Bellusci .. Wootton .. Killock CM - Cook .. Mowatt .. Murphy .. Sloth .. Phillips .. Bianchi .. Dawson .. Adeyemi RM - Byram .. Botake LM - Taylor .. Mowatt .. Dallas CF - Wood .. Antennuci .. Doukara .. Erwin .. Walters Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Looks threadbare of quality to me, Strike Byram and Sharp from that and we will look a lot worse than 12 months ago...
Great point Glory ... jeez now I'm depressed, need to crack open a cold tinnie ... it is worrying when you look at it this way, and if you wanted to be ultra harsh you could well say this is our reserve squad ... no firepower up front, desperately lacking in width, short of a ball winning midfielder to protect the back four ... sad truth is we need to spend at least £10m to fix this squad, but not sure how likely this is to happen ... Rosler will have to get this lot working extremely hard together, and they will have to fight for the full 90 minutes every game for us to stand any chance of threatening the top six ... going on last season, too many of our existing squad go awol in games and that has hurt us most Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Quality wise it doesn't look good and Billy you've made it look like we've got more players than we've actually got. We've only got 20 players with another 3 or 4 coming in. I think we need another 3 on top of that. Then you've got to remember that there will be players leaving.
Although they didn't get a chance last season, Killock, Dawson & Walters were in the first team squad, as I remember. Might have Montenegro breaking through too (or is he another one that's gone?). Not saying they're quality, or will improve the squad - just got to get a true representation of how the squad looks.
Jocko, updated ... Wolves, it shows our depth in each position, and how certain players fit into different roles ... bottom line, as it stands and with Cellino's transfer policy, we won't get anywhere near promotion until someone with cash comes in and spends twenty fcuking million on building a competitive squad ... remember, we need players who can cope with the pressure of playing for Leeds United ... winning promotion with a Bournemouth or Watford is great, but there isn't any real expectation of success at those clubs, so the players perform with more freedom ... at Leeds it is completely different, because every team wants to beat you and the footballing world still expects Leeds to be in the Prem ... our current lot aren't mentally strong enough as a collective to cope with wearing a Leeds United shirt ... just look at how many players have failed at Leeds, yet when they leave and go to a lesser club they suddenly shine, because that Leeds weight has been lifted Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Uwe Rosler has met striker Nicky Maynard personally in an attempt to persuade him to sign for Leeds United, report The Sun. The forward is a free agent with his contract at Cardiff City set to officially expire at the end of the month. These striker links.... Are they any better than what we already have?
Maynard has pace, and prior to going to Cardiff he was hot property, but may be another one you feel will be hard work to get producing for us ... Rosler has his work cut out, but look at how he transformed Jonathan Douglas ... he built a very hard working team at Brentford, and helped to transform the club along with their very positive owner ... Rosler struggled at Wigan because he inherited a squad of overpaid, sulking players who thought they would get bought by top flight clubs after relegation, but instead they journeyed even further south and now Wigan will find out just how hard Lge One has become Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I actually find it harsh to say Rosler struggled at Wigan. They were in trouble when he took over, he somehow managed to get them into the play-offs from a bad position as well as going on a cup run (also had european games to contend with). Didn't start the next season all that well but then I seem to remember they sacked very early and as a result ended up getting relegated.
We were 7/2 to be relegated at this stage last season......... So the bookies are to all intents and purposes saying we are no better than a year ago.... Millwall were 4/1 on July 1st to be relegated.... So come on happy clappys tell me why I should be optimistic?
Adeyemi added ... we now have EIGHT CMs and EIGHT forwards, so surely there will be some sold and loaned out ... for me both Dawson and Walters should be sent to Lge Two on season long loans as a minimum, and I'd send Phillips on loan until January and then see if he's needed for the second half of the season ... Sharp and Morison sold because I can't see them being regulars Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Dawson seems to be constantly overlooked, will be interesting to see if he features for Rosler. Problem for me is that they are all of similar quality (CMs) I wouldn't know who to get shot of, obviously keep Cook due to age and value, I can't see us keeping them all happy.
I wonder if Dawson is injured again. Reason I ask is that I've just realised that he didn't feature against Harrogate, nor was he on the bench! Everyone else was there! We played 3-5-2 for the first half against Harrogate, and I tend to agree with you. Wootton, Bellusci & Cooper seemed to struggle a little with the formation. Not convinced that either Bamba or Killock would have made much difference. Of course, it was our first run-out of the season, and our first attempt to play in the new coach's way, so probably too early to draw any firm conclusions.
Just read that Adeyemi is carrying an ankle knock so won't feature against York, maybe The Don can update us on Dawson. On paper you would imagine 5 3 2 would be perfect for the players we currently have..
