From their ground. Bet he still takes their money though. Massimo Cellino BANS Sky Sports from covering Leeds United's televised clash with Derby County Massimo Cellino has banned Sky Sports from covering Tuesday's game betweenLeeds and Derby. United’s controversial owner believes live TV coverage undermines his club’s attendances and commercial income. After weeks of complaints against their live TV appearances and disrupted fixture list, Cellino decided to impose a black-out. Before leaving for a Christmas break at his home in Miami, the Italian told Elland Road ground staff they must not allow Sky’s production crew into the stadium to set up for the Derby match. Mirror Sport understands Cellino warned that any staff who disobeyed his order would face disciplinary action for gross misconduct. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/massimo-cellino-bans-sky-sports-7085301
Strange decision. I`d expect a derby to pretty much sell out anyway. Isn`t this the same bloke who wanted to increase the admission price by £5 and include a pie? The man`s crazy.
"Under Football League regulations, clubs are required to provide access to the League's broadcasting partners for the purpose of setting up and filming any matches that are selected for transmission. Failure to do so will lead to a club being charged with misconduct with the matter being referred to an independent Football Disciplinary Commission." Oh dear.
If the figures are true I think the guy has a point. 9 out of their 23 games (39%) have been on TV. That's just ridiculous!
Just out of curiosity did he have to pass a"fit and proper person" test? If so which panel did he sit in front of to determine this?
Maybe the clubs lawyer's have told him to pick his toys up and put them back in the pram. That's not to say he doesn't have a point though.
Doesn`t make him any less loopy either. That sounds familiar. Wasn`t there some sort of inquest a while ago looking into his antics? Can`t remember whether it was to do with the club or his business dealings. Some sort of fraud rings a bell for some reason.
Isn't it the "sky bet" championship they play in? Aren't they owned by Sky? Pretty sure he has zero rights to do this! It's his ****ing lunacy that has cost the club so many fans! And the fact that here ****e!!
Of course he has zero rights to do this! Of course the guy is as mad as a sack of foxes! And yes, they are playing ****e football. They were down in 14th place when he apparently slapped the ban on. He can be all of those things AND still, in this case, have a point. 39% of his club's games have been on TV. (Forest's % is the only club with a higher %). I think the guy has a valid point to make. He wasn't subtle in how he made it and he had to back down and in doing so made himself look like an idiot. But he still had a point..
The thing is. Clubs, as a whole, make more money from tv revenue than attendance. We get 40k ish every game. I reckon a good 10000 concessions (at around a hundred pound a season card average). (£1m) plus the other 30k at around £400 (£12m) plus the food and drink which the profit will be around 50% so, at a guess, another £10m max I reckon. So the fans coming int the ground generate around £23m a year possibly. That's not including paying the police, stewards etc. Probably around 15m into the coffers from fans attending. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's one hell of a lot less than the to deal? Not sure how it all works really! But it'd be interesting to find out! Anyhow... Who gives a ****, it's only Leeds!
