Leeds boss Neil Warnock reveals he wanted Malky Mackay to succeed him at QPR LEEDS boss Neil Warnock praised the job Malky Mackay has done at Cardiff City â and then revealed he had lined him up to be his successor at QPR. Warnock guided Rangers into the Premier League last season, but was sacked in January as the top-flight strugglers turned to ex-Wales boss Mark Hughes. A month later Warnock bounced back by getting the Leeds post â and admits he is in awe at the job Mackay has done in guiding Cardiff into the Championship play-offs. âYouâve got to say how well Malkyâs done,â said Warnock after his Leeds side had thwarted Mackayâs men. âTo lose players like Bellamy and Bothroyd â people you canât replace in the Championship â but to regroup and get to a cup final and make the play-offs is incredible really. âNo wonder Iâve voted for him in my top three as manager of the year. Heâs done a remarkable job. âWhen Malky took the job, I bet most people thought he was going to struggle. âBut he goes about his job in the right way, thereâs no frills with him. âHe looks at what he wants and gets that dressing room right and thatâs what the Championshipâs all about for me.â But Warnock went even further, revealing that he wanted Mackay to actually succeed him at Loftus Road. âI would like to have kept QPR up and got him the job,â said the managerial veteran. âI told the board he was the next best thing since sliced bread. âBut I ended up getting the bleedinâ sack! So much for that.â Warnock felt there would have been âa lot of pressureâ on Cardiff had former Bluebirds striker Ross McCormack dispatched a golden fifth-minute opening. But Mackay felt that Cardiff created enough chances to win and saluted Bluebirds goalscorer Joe Mason, who signed a new four-year deal on Friday. âHis finish was sublime. He feels this is the place where he will progress,â said Mackay. âJoe has worked very hard with the staff and the other players to get better all the time. âWe havenât been able to hold him back. âHeâs made so much progress that we couldnât leave him out of the starting XI for most of the season. âThat is good testament to the lad himself. âItâs about looking at talent, looking at potential and taking chances and risks on youngsters, but also doing your homework and making sure you believe in them. âWe have three or four youngsters like that and they will all be good players for Cardiff in the future.â Read More http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footba...ceed-him-at-qpr-91466-30809997/#ixzz1skjdvbtS
In the early part of the season, when we were playing and winning away at the also rans, Warnock was talking about staying put and retiring at Rangers. After that came the pre-Christmas decline which led to his dismissal. Really can't see when he'd have had time to think about his successor, much less it being MacKay who'd just joined Cardiff at that time. BS monitor's going crazy again. Question is why?
Colin is wrong on so many levels . I predict you will stay up and you've got the right manager for the Job ! Good luck!
****ing idiot will show more of his true colours as this goes on .. Without Taarabt we were just normal ... Give this sort of thing another 6 months he will get the sack when he is found out
The fella got us promoted...respect where its due, regardless of what he is spoutin out IMO. He has always come out with some strange/silly comments (pre and post Rs) so dont see the need to start abusing the bloke now, especially as he done us a huge favour.
That is a pretty disgusting comment, and libelous.Jones was shown to have been the victim of a pretty ham fisted attempted compo scam by scouse chavs. The judge commented at the time that it should never have been brought to court.
