I ask why as Discipline Martin 6 Yellow 3 Red Rooney 4 Yellow 2 Red Montrose 8 Yellow 1 Red he doesnt even feature in our top 3, keep at it mr lee we need some physicality in the team, bit of grit like the hessy from years ago!!
Really difficult one this one. I like to see a few guys with physicality in the team, such as C-Lee, however, with out the red card count that Martin has picked up and Charlie does need to lower the yellow count. The best way I can demonstrate where I am coming from is through Luke Rooney. Now we all know that I liked him as a player and if it was down to me, he would not have been going any where. If he is good enough for Di-Canio he is good enough for us (but that is not the debate). The problem was I also saw him like a petulant child (nothing nasty meant by that) - basically occasional the bigger lads in the team needed to strap him to the naughty step (nothing kinky mind). Rooney's card count demonstrated his weakness, even if I believed in time it could have been worked on. So now let's come to Martin. Albeit the last red was a bit harsh, for someone who is supposed to be a decent left back, my can he have lapses. He needs to be smarter than keep walking himself into the refs book. I was reading an article on a defender the other day, reasonable number of bookings for his position but never got sent off. It seems so strange how Rooney got a battering for his petulance and yet Martin somehow ducks under the radar, well not mine! jokey - unfortunately Charlie Lee does feature in the top three, no more so than the League Two, top TWO with Martin taking star prize...http://soccernet.espn.go.com/stats/discipline/_/league/eng.4/english-league-two?cc=5739 At least Charlie Lee has been smart enough not to pick up a red, YET!
The main issue here is the reason for the cards. I like to see players "get stuck in" it shows passion for the club and a will to win. Unfortunately this usually does involve a high number of bookings but I will not apologise for any team adopting this style. What is annoying is the soft booking, i.e. bookings for dissent and unsporting behaviour. I haven't got the stats, but no doubt brb is working on some now butl the lion's share of Martin's booking have come from challenges, which in my book is acceptable. Some of them are foolhardy admitedly but at 22 he is still learning his game. I don't know what number of Lee's booking have been for dissent but it should be these that every player should be looking to cut out.
<crikey> to big a job for me I have sent a tweet to Gary Wade see if he will help us out, can only ask
to be fair i used the bbc stats which obviously count reds a lot more than yellows obviously. bsg i dont recall lee being booked for dissent at any point i think they have all been challanges. fair play to the lad he wants to improve his discipline record but as long as its not at the cost of him getting stuck in for the team!
Ok let's see how this went??? First game and oh look you got booked Lee. Never mind we won, I don't give a stuff about your discipline just keep playing well. UTG
BSG will have noticed that Charlie picked up another needless card v Crewe - and continued to be a little reckless - had to be spoken to by the referee (with captain Jackman) - when the ref could have made things worse by giving him a 2nd yellow. After this Charlie was too reluctant to be fully committed. His passionate style is a crowd pleaser, but Lee needs to learn to cut out the 'stupid cards', especially so early in the game. He will be missed for the next 3 games - and could yet still pick up a suspension that will keep him out of the play off final !
The manager was competitive so now the team is. i would be worried if all the cards were for violent conduct or dissent but their not so no problem
No problem??????? Suspended for 6 games (at least) Needing to be substituted to save him being sent off Unable to tackle competitively because he picks up a yellow early in the game! Team tactics having to be junked because of his vulnerability allowing the opposition to exploit the situation. This guy has some real ability but he seems to have a brain the size of a pea. He has cost the team dear in non-availability and he is probably going to be the cause of a bumper fine in view of the club's appauling disciplinary record. it would not be so bad if all these cards were given in "do or die" situations but with Lee they are given on the half way line in "no danger" situations. The remedy needs to be unambiguous. If he gets any more cards in the first 60 mins of a match he should be automatically subbed and fined a week's pay. even a moron with a brain the size of a pea will get the message....eventually.
Yep, overstated to make a point but it is so avoidable and it is wrong for people to think this is alright.
