Report: Lee Johnson wants Jason Cummings as first Bristol City signing after scouting mission.

Lee Johnson reportedly wants to make Hibernian striker Jason Cummings his first Bristol City signing this summer.

Hibernian striker Jason Cummings in action on Tuesday night.
Johnson, 34, left Barnsley to take the Bristol City job earlier this month, returning to Ashton Gate having made almost 200 appearances for the Robins during his playing career.
The former midfielder now follows in the footsteps of his father Gary Johnson by managing Bristol City, and his immediate target is to keep the Robins in
the Championship, as they currently sit five points clear of the drop zone.
Should Johnson keep Bristol City in the Championship, he is expected to have a big transfer budget at his disposal in the summer - and
The Scottish Sun report that he is looking to make Hibernian striker Jason Cummings his first signing at the end of the season.

Cummings, 20, has smashed 20 goals this season after 21 goals last term, and he has earned a reputation as being one of Scotland's top young talents.
Now, it's suggested that Johnson watched Tuesday's night's Edinburgh derby between Hibernian and his former club Hearts at Easter Road, with Cummings the subject of his visit - and he saw the striker score the only goal in a 1-0 victory for Hibs, but the forward was also sent off late on.

I've seen Cummings a few times and he looks the business. Trouble is we wont be alone in wanting him and if there are bigger clubs bidding than us then we can probably forget it.

And Scottish strikers haven't always done the job for us. Some have been stars others have been pretty awful.

    The good un's
    Ritchie
    Jordan
    Peacock

    The Not so good un's
    Lee Miller
    David Clarkson

How many more can you come up with for each category ?

I think most clubs' scouting networks are good enough that any player of any particular note is identified by dozens of teams well in advance of rumours reaching the papers - even our £50k 'punt' Arnold Garita was apparently scouted by Arsenal and Newcastle prior to us signing him.

I know he wasn't a striker, but Liam Kelly was quite good for us before his injury & Ivan Sproule had his moments (yes, Northern Irish, but signed from Hibs), though usually frustrating.

Would be a very interesting signing. I know others will say Scottish players, or players from the Scottish league can't hack it at this level but he's a different kind of player. Only 20 years old and smashing over 40 goals in, in 2 years. Yes the standard isn't as good but the goal nets are the same size! Would hope this is sort of singing we make in the summer, certainly fits the "type" that we would sign. I'm not 100%, as we still have 15 games left, but I'd be surprised if we didn't stay up. So little lee has some big deals to be doing when the seasons over. Hopefully he doesn't take his holiday when the window opens like cotterill did....
