Journalist reveals major update on Lee Johnson’s future at Bristol City

Lee Johnson has agreed a new long-term contract to stay as Bristol City manager, according to a reliable journalist.

It was reported earlier this week that Johnson was set to enter talks over his future at Ashton Gate, with his current contract set to expire at the end of next season.

The 37-year-old had expressed his desire to remain at the club and help the Robins win promotion to the Premier League.

Sports journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed the news on social media with this message via Twitter.

Johnson guided Bristol City to an eighth-place finish in the Championship this season, just missing out on a place in the play-offs on the final day of the campaign.

    The Verdict:

This has got to be considered a major boost for Bristol City. Johnson is building something at Ashton Gate and to lose him now would have left the club in a very difficult position.

He has expressed his desire to take the club to the Premier League and this sort of ambition will please Bristol City fans.

Johnson will be looking to strengthen his squad in the transfer market this summer, as he looks to build a team that can challenge for promotion next season.

At least it means you'll get a decent compensation package if he leaves.<whistle>

Exactly if someone wants to turn his head it is just guaranteeing a compensation package.
Mr L needs to back this ambitious young English manager with a war chest to take the club up.
Then the sky would be the limit, we would need to increase the ground size by taking the Ateyo stand.

    No doubt he's marmite.
At 70, he's set in his ways but it's tried and tested.
No doubt he's not a manager you want to play against, but I've always liked him. A real character, and not enough of them in the game these days.
Be an interesting match up when we meet this season. Two managers from different eras.

Not always the prettiest of football. His game plan is simple which is how he gets quite ordinary players to stick to a game plan.
His whole is always greater than the sum of the parts.

He has used Bobby Reid to great effect, and certainly got the best out of Tomlin.

He's better when he doesn't spend money.
Not sure why he bought Tomlin as he doesn't fit his work ethic.
Don't know why he didn't play Reid as he did well when he did.
On average, he hasn't got much wrong.

    I’m pleased about this.
The ‘Johnsons out’ brigade is still there lurking on Facebook though - although perhaps they just want to see men exposing their genitals.........

I like Warnock. Football needs characters like him.
Plenty don’t like him though - and although I don’t share their view I do understand why.
I think he said once (during his Palarse days) that he would love to manage Bristol City one day.
Maybe if the LJ project stagnates he might get the chance....? Who knows, but I prefer LJs football to be honest.

He did say he would love to manage us and I would have been happy with that.
However we have a guy who is pulling the right strings at present, we just need Mr L to back him.
Ashton Gate is ready for a real push next season.

Still nothing announced on official Site and after LJ’s interview on Twentyman on Monday’s show, where he said basically it was in the pipeline, but there hadn’t been time to sit down with SL and sort it out, I’m not sure there’s been enough time since to do it, I’m sure it will happen at some point soon . Just think these so called scoops are journalists trying to claim they know stuff they don’t . I’m going to wait until the club announce it officially. By LJ’s tone I’m sure it will happen soon , just not convinced it’s already been done.
