From looking at the highlights on Saints player, he looks to be match fit, ready and raring to go. Always rated him - commits defenders when he runs at them and can whip in a great ball. Is there an argument for him to be starting games? With Guly blowing hot and cold and not perfectly suited to a position on the wing, Holmes could be a better option than De Ridder who is still adjusting
I think Holmes is a good player, and for me, Guly looks uncomfortable down the right and with De Ridder still adjusting, I think Holmes should be given a go - hes impressed in pre-season and cup games so why not? oh, and welcome to the forum - at least you missed earlier haha!
Definately adds another element to our game that we lack... seems to be only Butterfield and Holmes who can whip in a good cross!! Soo i would like to see the lad giving a go.. I say put him on the bench and drop Guly.. as de ridder can be either forward or wide man!
I agree, it's useful also having someone who can take good corners (as well as Fox if he's on the pitch).
I was at the game Tuesday and Holmesy looks the real deal. Pace, strength, tenacity and a cracking cross. If he works on his finishing he could be a very good player. I'm not so sure we should start him just yet, but a place on the bench is warranted from that performance IMO. Either way, he's having a great run in the Carling Cup and it's doing him the world of good.
Probably because he isn't ripping a new one in the full back each week. I believe that many saints fans don't appreciate the unspectacular in a performance. Guly is making a good contribution.
Spot on at times guly is worth dropping ,but not now when he is playing well as that will do his confidence no good at all .
Agreed - making contribution all over the pitch; including defensively. The number of headed clearances he's made this season, am impressed with his work rate.
I think Guly has improved this season, he looks like a more complete player. It wouldn't be fair to drop him right now, he's part of a strong starting 11 at the moment that have been playing well. No need to change in my opinion.
Drop Guly?! Have you all cracked? I like and rate Lee Holmes as a player but I wouldn't start him at the expense of Guly being dropped. Do Prado has been solid for us this season and is doing a great job playing out of position. He isn't afraid to put the boot in either. Always remember Lee Holmes scoring against the Skates at SMS
I like Holmes, I really do. But I'm not going to argue that he should be in the matchday 16 ahead of Guly, Morgan, Fox or Chaplow (or De Ridder, but that opinion is yet to be fully formed - after seeing him for a few more games, maybe I might prefer Holmes over him). Holmes in my opinion is one of the biggest casualties of this new five sub rule. It's done him no favours whatsoever.
