Sky Sports understands that Lee Clark has left his role as manager of League One promotion contenders Huddersfield Town.

The former Newcastle United midfielder is widely regarded as one of the most promising manager's in the lower leagues.

But he has been unable to guide Huddersfield to promotion, despite financial backing from owner Dean Hoyle.

Now after going three games without winning, the Terriers have dropped to fourth in the table, four points off Sheffield United - who beat them at the Galpharm on Tuesday.

Clark had even been mentioned in respect to the current vacancies at Leeds United and Wolverhampton.

Strange move unless he's bound for one of the above mentioned clubs. My bet is on Leeds.

Hum, something isn't right there. Clarke has been linked with leeds amongst others. seems strange he has been sacked when he hs been thought of as one of the best young managers around. Cannot see him being out of the game for too long. The words "tapped up" come to mind...........

Funny this I was talking to a client of mine who is a hard core Huddersfield supporter and he didn't have a good word to say about Clarke, I thought he was mad but he went on to inform me there are plenty not happy with him as he seemed to bottle it trying to get over the line thereby missing out on promotion 3 times. He also said that he was really in with the owners and was the only reason he was still in the job.

Obviously not any more and tbh this is only one persons opinion, but it's funny what you pick up on your travels.

Strange that CB, do you remember saying this about Warnock??

'Said when he got sacked I heard his going to Leeds, therefore I beg to differ with your source'

Now its Clarke...make you mind up mate or is it a dream Warnock / Clark ticket at 'Town?

Lee Clark to join Leeds and Neil Warnock makes a sensational return to Huddersfield and guides them up to the Championship this season.
Will make for one feisty derby game next season when Lee Clark returns to the Galpharm Stadium with Leeds.

If he was tapped up, surely he would have resigned then they would have got some compensation? Being sacked means huddersfield dont want him and now have to pay him off.

Dean Hoyle, the Huddesfield chairman, has had a look around and has seen a few big names out of work. He thinks that he can entice one of them to the Galpharm stadium. What a tosser.

Crazy move by them. They have been in terrific form not only this season, but the last couple of years. He led them to 40 odd games unbeaten!

I am amazed they got rid of him.

The fact that two high profile Yorkshire managers in Mick McCarthy and Sir Neil Warnock is available combined with Flanman's comment (most likely not the only one) makes it somewhat understandable.

But only 3 defeats in 55 league games... CRAZY MOVE!
