With the injury to Lucas, it looks like we have a free spot for the DM role. Spearing is the obvious candidate, but if he is forced to play every game, especially after little first team experience then we could run into trouble both during play and with injuries. Therefore, looking at other, affordable and FSG-esque players the most obvious player to fit the bill would be Lee Cattermole. We were linked with him last year for a relatively low cost of £10m, for a young British player. This year with Sunderland in a not too good position, that's unlikely to change massively before January we could take him for an even lower amount. What would everyone think if we did buy Lee Cattermole? Would he fit into the team ahead of Spearing, or just be his understudy?
Humm. I'm not a fan of his. I'd prefer rotating Spearing and Gerrard when he gets fit. We should of picked up Parker.
I'm also not a fan, he has a nasty streak and can be a liability. Of course that could be worked and curbed but I don't think he has the quality either.
No way, I think he is over-rated. It would be an insult to Spearing if we bought Cattermole to play ahead of him. If we want to bring in cover for Lucas at least make it so it's a better player than Jay otherwise what is the point?
Possibly the worst signing you could make, I dont watch Liverpool much but I guarantee you have better players in the reserves.
Lee Cattermole wouldn't add much to the team. In terms of cover for Spearing I think we could change the team around when not playing him, we don't need to stick with one formation, players can take up different roles. Adam, Henderson and Gerrard are all capable of holding the midfield at a decent level. Personally if we brought a DM in I would prefer M'Vila, Keita or someone in that mould, someone who can add something different. The two mentioned would be good in Europe if we got a CL spot and both are the sort of players the best teams in Europe would have as cover. My point is, if we bring in a player like Cattermole it will not only be insulting to Spearing, but sort of short-term, I can't see him playing CL football to be perfectly honest.
nah, Sunderland would want mega bucks as they would be under the impression that we need him + "English Player Tax" I'd rather we kept developing Spearing
If I was MoN, Cattermole would be one of the first names on my 'get rid of' list! Good player, massive liability!
Cattermole and Spearing are similar players, like to stick close to their man, quite nippy around the field and are passionate for whoever they play for. Why would we need two of the same player when we have one already?
I don't think we need to buy anyone, unless a decent opportunity presents itself. A half season loan in January would do us, or else we'd have too many DMs come summer when Lucas is fit. Although it does depend on the type of player we look at/acquire. If they bring something different to Lucas, a permanent deal may be worthwhile. Lassana Diarra is probably the best option out there for a loan. Or we could ask for Carrick...not.
Diarra in the summer would be a yes, I still think he could be but he is being deployed more often than not at RB!! Can't be too happy with that but he is playing now unlike last year so depends on what he wants.

Cattermole is ****ing ****. He's just an overly aggressive twat that goes flying into tackles. He's ****e. Worth no more than 2 mil.
