10 minutes left on Saturday and about a dozen filtered away from the South Stand , still cant get my head around it especially after it was 1-1 with a chance of winning which we did.
Constant stream in the upper west from 85th min onwards, in fact by the final whistle there were only six of us left on our row.
I left at about 82. I tried to boo as well but it didn't catch on. Saw the goal on MOTD anyway so I'm not bothered.
I have never and will never understand this. I think the only time I have ever left early was in injury time at the 3-0 defeat at Barnsley in the last promotion season when if we'd played all night we wouldnt have scored. If you're someone who leaves early during games that are 1-1 in a massive 6 pointer then can you explain why you do it? I wont have a go, I'm genuinely interested. Is that 20 mins you might save on your journey home really worth it? And if you are so desperate to get home then why did you leave there and go to the game in the first place? When thinking of this I always I imagine being at the cinema and with 5 mins to go people all stand up and leave to avoid queuing in the car park.
I had to leave early for the Villa game because I ponced a lift off a mate. It didn't feel right at all. I declined a lift on Saturday because of his 'leave early' policy and took great delight in ringing him when I got home to make sure he'd missed the goal.
Why does he insist on leaving early? Surely after Saturday he must be questioning his preposterous practice.
Before retirement I was a shift worker at Tata Steel in Scunthorpe, after we moved to the KC I used to leave my seat during evening games at 21:15, jog down Walliker Street, over the footbridge to my car on Selby Street to drive to Scunny to let my mate off. It's the only time I EVER left early though.
I don't really understand why we make so much out of when others want to leave games. Surely if they want to leave early its up to them. As long as they don't leave their seat and then proceed to watch the rest of the game standing in front of everyone, like some do, (they are the ones who need a hot cattle prod poking in an eye socket). Why do we feel the need to say they are any lesser a supporter just because they only watch 85 minutes or even less. As this weeks game shows its their loss if they go early, but isn't it up to them to make their own decision. I'm sure they are big and ugly enough to make that gargantuan decision for themselves. What are we going to tell everyone to do next? What underpants they have to wear?
I saw a scarf being thrown towards the pitch, but couldn't say if it was messing about or disgust. I also saw someone leaving shaking their head in disgust. Both were not too many minutes before the goal.
Who said they 'were a lesser supporter'? and I dont see anyone criticising or try to tell people what to do. As far as I can see all the posts are trying to understand this bizarre approach. You pay a lot of money for a day out that really isnt that long in duration and then you leave with one tenth of it still to go. Why?
I don't understand leaving early either but as has been said there are sometimes good reasons (like work etc) but so long as it doesn't affect me then they pay their money and it's their choice. I don't see it as any different to people turning up after kick off or going to/from the bar 5 mins before/after half time.
Considering how many people leave early towards the end of games & the differing opinions of those who do, who don't & who don't give a **** I'm really surprised that this topic has never been discussed before. I should have left early on Saturday but decided to **** my pants instead. I always carry a spare, so no problem.
Quite a few in the lower west left 5 minutes before the end muttering that we can't even beat DQPR with 10 men, serves them right, maybe they won't do it again in a hurry.
Unless there's a perfectly legitimate reason for leaving early (ie work) then you should never ever bugger off before full time. What do the players think when they see out of the corner of their eye fans streaming for the exits with over five minutes left in a massively important game,a game that's one apiece with City having all the possession? "Oh,cheers for your support guys but I guess you've given up on us seeing as you're going home". Stay the ninety,applaud the players off at the end if they deserve it then go home.Whats so important that requires you to get home 10 minutes earlier than if you stayed Til the end? Baffling. Its no surprise it's usually the south-East corner and West upper that lead the exodus though. I must admit,I chuckled at the thought of a number of City fans staring at each other,open-mouthed,as their walk home through West park was punctuated by a deafening roar of delight from the Stadium behind them...
