The tie will be played at Fratton Park in the week commencing February 17 and screened live on Sky Sports. It was the Grecians who came out on top when the sides last met in this competition back in September 2015. An inexperienced Blues side were beaten 2-0 at St James Park in the first round, with Ryan Harley and Alex Nicholls on target. The most recent encounters took place in Pompey's title-winning season a few years ago, with each club winning 1-0 on the other's patch. Exeter are currently sitting second in the League Two table and have not lost any of their past 10 matches in all competitions. They topped Southern Group E of the Leasing.com Trophy with a maximum haul of points, then saw off Oxford, Ipswich and Stevenage to reach the last four. Pompey are the current holders and looking to become the first side to successfully defend the silverware. A confirmed date for the fixture and ticket information will be announced in due course. Pompey will play Newport County or Salford City in the EFL Trophy Final at Wembley on Sunday 5th April - should they defeat Exeter City on Tuesday 18th February.
Going to have to take this one seriously. Exeter are flying and have already knocked out Ipswich. Might pop down for this one - £10 a cheap. Would absolutely love a trip to Wembley again. Last year was excellent fun.
Boycotts don't work when you selectively choose to ignore them. Do you think the African-American population of Montgomery chose to start using the buses when winter happened and it got cold?
I do agree with the principle. Should not be under 21 teams from the prem in there. Totally devalues the competition and is an insult to the football league clubs. However a trip to Wembley is a trip to Wembley. A lot of teams very rarely if ever go there.
But as I say, a boycott isn't gonna work if people abandon it just because of Wembley. Yes, Wembley is great but this fight is bigger than one stadium. Just think of the message it will send to the EFL if a ridiculously low attendance is at Wembley. A message, clear and loud: we will never accept b teams in the EFL trophy, the league or anywhere else. It'll never happen but one can dream.
