So far I think Barmby's style is a breath of fresh air compared to what we have been used to. He is definitely an advocate of the 'beautiful game' and already the Southampton and Leicester fans have said we are one of the best passing teams they have played. A few people yesterday criticised the players for trying to walk the ball into the net, but for the majority of us who have been brought up on players that look scared of the ball it's music to our ears. Add to that the energy he has instilled, the fluid 4-3-3 attacking formation and the fact that we can play 45minutes of patient keep ball in the opposition half without panicking is really promising. I hope nothing tempts him to compromise this style of football because if he can get the results he deserves (and pick up two or three more decent players) we could all be in for some good football.
I think it's horrible ugly rubbish football. Would much rather see longballs, leg breaking tackles and constant fouls. Way more pleasing on the eye!
I like the way he gets the best out of certain players like Koren and Fryatt, something that Pearson didnt really do
http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/story-14029113-detail/story.html? Not looking likely: "If I'm going to manage a team I'm not going to suddenly change my ethics if something goes against us."
"I'm not about to ask my players to hit it long and go from there, I'm not prepared to do that." Sounds good to me. A good passing team can deal with a long ball team but not vice versa. Plus that style of football would be a lot more effective if we do go up.
I think we definitely are improved going forward. I think we look really handy at times. I think we've got a bit more vulnerability than before though, but it's tough to balance it out. Barmby is doing better than I expected, I feared the worst when he was decided. A few little tweaks mind, and we look very, very decent indeed.
One thing I've never understood is the mentality of, you have a system/ethos whatever, you try it, a lot, week in week out, it doesn't work and you lose consistently... If the person in that line above changes, they get criticized for not sticking to their guns, but if they don't change, they cant adapt or change... So question is, if something doesn't work, no matter how much your heart tells you it should do, and even if it looks lovely, would you change it? If not, why not? Personally I'd rather people were able to adapt, so sure, passing game, beautiful game, awesome, if its not working Id expect to see them lock the front door and attack on the break.
This offers a decent insight to how he must have viewed some of his previous managers; especially Brown after the Sunderland defeat! You mean like the Black Cats did yesterday against Wolves?
I know what you're saying about being adaptable, but teams like Arsenal and Barcelona seem to have it 'hard wired' into them that they play good passing football in all situations and they win a hell of a lot more games than they lose. There are always some frustrating games when you wish they would be more direct, but over a season their supporters know they will be competing near the top and I would gladly settle for something like that at City.
SPOT ON MATE. 100% AGREED ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THIS. As the saying goes.....Football is a simple game complicated by fools. If City have the ball then nothing else matters. Very pleasing on the eye and long may it and Barmby continue. The game that NB wants City to play is well suited to the PL. Norwich and Swansea were promoted doing this and carry on now doing so. To be a little more open at the back is a small price to pay for attacking and possession football. BARMBY ARMBY BARMBY ARMY
Some people forget that if you play keep ball so to speak, the apposing team are working a lot harder to close the player with the ball down, which against 10 men in particular eventually wares them down.
didn't he just. dragging off Beckford for St.Ledger before the re-start. but then again that was typical Pearson. then bringing off Nugent for Gallagher ? it was nigel pearson all over and so glad that he has now gone. YES, He brought in a new - young and refreshing group of players that are way to forward for NP. They are perfect to be moulded and looked after by Nicky Barmby. Glad that we WON and can now move onto the next level under NB reign.
Yes. The buzz around the place and the upturn in form of Fryatt and Koren says it all. Nicky Barmby is now showing everyone what he is made of and the football is More than pleasing on the Eye. I need a bib on matchdays now and its not for any kind of food either. lol.
