Lee Johnson will soon discover which players he can trust as Bristol City move to banish dismal form
    By a_stockhausen | Posted: January 17, 2017

Lee Johnson expects to learn which players he can fully trust while he continues to try to come to terms with their worst run of form since 2012.

Not since Derek McInnes was in charge five seasons ago have the Robins lost seven straight league games, a club-record runs of defeats.

Head coach Johnson is coming under fire from frustrated supporters, but still has the backing of majority shareholder Steve Lansdown and the Ashton Gate board of directors.

And he has an opportunity to turn City's form and results around when selecting a side to take on League One Fleetwood Town in an FA Cup third round replay at Highbury Stadium tonight.

But until the Robins are able to end their eight-game run without a win, the head coach will fall upon those players he trusts to produce their best form under pressure.

Reflecting on a difficult situation, Johnson said: "Maybe going through this will be a positive, because when we come through it, you know who can handle the level, you find out who is with and who is not and you can really build a ring of steel that gives you the platform to kick on."

Johnson experienced an eight-game losing streak at Barnsley last season, while his father, Gary, went ten games without a win during his first season at the helm in 2005/06.

Johnson added: "It happened that way at Barnsley, Bristol City did it when my Dad went through that spell and I can go back to Joe Royle at Oldham. There are a million scenarios like that.

"Football is so up and down now, that it is very unusual to have somebody (Steve Lansdown) with the strength of character to stand firm."

A firm believer in the long-term plan that he was brought into deliver last year, Johnson has lost none of his enthusiasm for what he describes as his "dream job."

He added: "You are always trying to be a better person, a better manager and a better person. You try and improve every day, and that has to be the mind-set, whether you are a manager or a player.

"This is a very difficult period to deal with, because you are scrapping and scraping trying to find the answers. You do everything in your power to do that.

"I still have the freshness every day and I love my job. I love this club, I love coming in every day, I love these young players and I love trying to implement the plan. Not for one moment has my enthusiasm wavered from the first day I walked back in here.

"Maybe it's the frustration of not being able to achieve what I so desire for everybody that is my biggest problem. Maybe it's a case of just relaxing and not being too tense."

It does make me laugh, it says he is a beliver in a long term plan that he was brought in to deliver last year and yet the first line points out he expects to learn which players he can fully trust, how long does it take.?

    Which players can he trust?

None - if they want him gone.

They all know that it'll only take a couple more poor performances and he'll be gone.

It's how football seems to work.
