So there I was, standing in front of the Barclay End, with two of my grandsons, a microphone in front of me, being asked by a nice NCFC employee asking me to start off OTBC. And they all started singing! I paid £250 for that pleasure and got drowned out. So those of you there who may have noticed a grey haired old git apparently miming, yes that was Redruthyella. Been incomunicado for ten days while on Holiday in Hemsby.
Excellent stuff Redruth. Hope you enjoyed it. Last time I was in Hemsby, I was wearing a Parka and riding a Lambretta!
Hemsby?????? Bloody hell why didn't you say, that's not far from me, I would gladly have let you buy me a pint. Hope you had a good time, at Hemsby and the footy.
.......ah, Hemsby, childhood memories of family holidays there, playing in the dunes. is hemsby still there then? forgotten it existed.
I had two or three childhood holidays there in a caravan just by the coast. Really good beaches there and I remember over the years watching an advancing dune destroy a pillbox, now you can't tell it was there at all! .... I also remember with child logic thinking humm if I trap the ice cream van that goes along the beach he will have to sell all the ice creams off cheap and then digging a trench system before being told off by my mother!
Hemsby has certainly changed. I wouldn't take my scooter years ago as it might have been pinched! Now its bright lights and arcades. The Lacon Arms is a bit of a tip and its no wonder it isn't as packed as it used to be. Stalag 17 or Richardsons Hemsby Beach was a useful base, so close to the beach, but is certainly in need of an upgrade. I took the grandsons to Joyland and they did go on the snails just to please Grandad but in return I had to go on the Wipe Out at Pleasurewood Hills. I just shut my eyes and gripped tight until we stopped. Norwich is still a fine, clean city and so easy to manouvre around. House prices are cheaper than Cornwall and so is eating out and filling up your car. Still a city to be proud of if you live there and one to associated if you were lucky enough to be brought up there.
Yes, I moved here on when I became a civilian, having spent 22 years serving 'Queen & Country' and do appreciate living here and my grown-up children have settled nearby as well. It's got most things you could want from a big city, but it is still close to the countryside and coast. The football team's pretty good too!!!
Born and bred not far from Hemsby, and spent my first 18 years around those parts before heading off to uni and still have family around there so I have some awesome memories of that part of the world. I did a few seasons behind the bar at Pontins back in the 90's and actually met my missus there one summer back in 1996 so I owe a lot to Hemsby for sure There are some fantastic beaches around there for sure, Winterton, Sea Palling and we went to see the seals up on Horsey beach over New Year last year. 222 of em there were apparently, that was pretty amazing to see. I love that part of the world, it's always what I'll call "home" and the plan is to move back that way in the not so distant future. Glad you and and the young uns had a cracking day Redruth, sounds like one they'll never forget - just a shame we couldn't quite get over the line and bag all three points for them!
My grandsons were both born in Cornwall which is known as a holiday resort. They were shocked with the quality of the beaches of Hemsby and Yarmouth. Miles and miles of sand that is more like flour than anything else. To be honest, Norfolk is one of Britain's great secrets.
