Just been checking the fixtures for the run-in for the League Two title and it is going to be a nail-biting time with some interesting games: Gillingham: 16th March Away to Morecambe 19th March Away to Rochdale 23rd March Home to Accrington Stanley 30th March Away to Fleetwood 1st April Home to Rotherham 6th April Home to Torquay 13th April Away to Cheltenham 20th April Home to AFC Wimbledon 27th April Away to Burton Burton: 16th March Away to Dagenham 23rd March Home to Wycombe 30th March Home to Chesterfield 1st April Away to Accrington Stanley 5th April Away to Port Vale 13th April Home to Plymouth 20th April Away to Bradford 27th April Home to Gillingham Port Vale: 16th March Away to York 23rd March Home to Aldershot 29th March Home to Cheltenham 1st April Away to Chesterfield 5th April Home to Burton 13th April Away to Rochdale 20th April Home to Northampton 27th April Away to Wycombe
I believe the challenge for autos involves five teams for my selection, the three you mentioned and Rotherham/Northampton
The game in had for us is key. IF we can win that we will be 13 points clear of fourth with 9 games to go, which means we would need to lose over a point a game to be dragged into the playoff zone, so win that game and auto promotion should be in the bag
I still stick with my belief that we will be auto promoted at Easter, the decider possibly coming against Rotherham on the bank holiday Monday. Three points in this game would seal it imo. Looking at the stats, I would like us to take six points out of a possible twelve in our next four league games before that match. I know you can look at our closest rivals but they will be dropping points against one another in some big auto promotion fixtures. We need to get this big hurdle out of the way, then and only then can we turn our thoughts to being possible Champions but that will probably go to the last game. I think the away fixtures at Fleetwood and Burton may well be the one's that fans should be keeping a close eye on for booking. Fleetwood in case we seal the autos sooner and Burton for a title decider.
As the league stands today, the maximum number of points the top 7 can get are: Gills 97 Burton 89 Port Vale 88 Northampton 86 Rotherham 88 Cheltenham 85 Exeter 84 Tomorrows results will be interesting with some teams falling further behind each other, as several are playing each other. We've got 70 points, so we need in excess of a point a game to be sure.
We should be looking to get more than just one point from each of the next two away games. I understand why we played 'safe' at Exeter - but we need to step up a gear at Morecambe ( home draw specialists ) & Rochdale ( 7 home defeats ) - these statistics indicate that the 3 points could be grabbed !
