Today 4th placed Gills travel to Chesterfield. A win could potentially see us climb up to Auto 2nd place, a loss would only see us drop one place and remain in the play-off places.

The ties of the day is 2nd v 1st. Walsall v Burton, I think I would settle for a Walsall win or draw, as a Burton win would see them start to open up a bit of a gap.

Other big clashes around us, see Sheffield United (7th) host Rochdale (6th) - while 3rd place Bury entertain Wigan at home, I wouldn't mind seeing a draw in that latter game.

Lower down the league the Posh under new management travel to our old enemy. We know what needs to be done there.

While down in lowly 15th place 'no one hates them' have been given the day off, such poor performances, their fans have all cleared off to Germany. By the way as a matter of Gills interest, their bench warmer Marquis, has finally seen the light and signed on a 93 day loan spell for League Two side Orient. Oh how he could have been with a great promotion chasing pub side with better prospects ;)

brb, I assume you had nothing to do from your post, you said what would happen "if" but not what you actually think will happen.
As always I'm going for a Gills win, if only I could bring myself to predict anything other than a win I might do better in the prediction league thingy.

Will be on the Wall at 15.00 just so I can do some more damage to the computer when things go badly. :headbang:

A happy camel - but don't worry I do have tales of Hi Viz woes ( of course ), and opinion on the referee ( I'll put in the Weak,Week & Feeble thread ).

I wasn't overly pleased to see Dickenson in the starting line up - but we started with 3 centre backs and used Dickenson in a midfield of 5. Chesterfield didn't have any pace - so were no real threat down our 'sides.'

After a bit of early Home 'possession', we got a lucky break. Their keeper made a hash of collecting a cross - the ball went through his hands and landed at the feet of Egan - who tapped the ball for what may be his 'easiest' ever goal.

Gills then started to take more control - but an awful clearance out of defence put us in a position where we were outnumbered, and the ball was played to their NO.22, who calmly slid the ball past Nelson for 1-1. After this Chesterfield gained confidence and ended the half on the 'offensive.'

At the beginning of the 2nd half we went to 4-5-1. Ehmer was withdrawn with Morris going to RB ( did well ). Dickenson went to LB - without much drama - but was ultimately subbed for Garmstron. Norris was the '1' up front. The formation started to work - with the midfield winning most battles. This allowed more forward play, and it wasn't long before we regained the lead.

McGlashan made a run down the right - went past his man - looked up and saw Donnelly on the penalty spot. Jermaine put in a beautiful cross. Donnelly gave a quick glance at the goalkeepers' position as he rose for the ball and directed it into the far right side of the helpless goalie. The 396 camels cheering for The Gills gave much adulation - normally reserved for the unused McDonald.

The Gills came under a little pressure from Chesterfield - but, in truth, they were getting better as the game went on. It was no surprise when the 3rd Gills goal arrived. It followed a couple if intense minutes of bombardment of the Chesterfield goal - during which we hit the post. Osadebe should have done better when he tried to shoot from a very acute angle - when Norris was screaming at him to 'cut back' the ball ( Norris was totally free and the goal was gaping ! ) Angry words were exchanged between the two players - needing Egan to calm Osedebe ! - but this was all forgotten a few moments later - when the ball was pinged from one side of the Chesterfield box to the other - with their defenders chasing shadows. I think it was Hess who chipped the ball across the box. I think it was Egan who headed the ball back, goalwards - but Lennon got a final touch to make sure the ball crossed the line.

Although we then 'relaxed' a little and invited Chesterfield to get near our goal, I never thought we were at any real risk of dropping any points.

The performance wasn't spectacular - but VERY solid and entertaining. We had square pegs in square holes ! Well done Gills.
