Great day...was only 6 at the time so can't remember too much about it although i can recall my late father crying tears of joy at the end......
A lot of photos I had never seen before. I was only 4 months old. Will I ever get to celebrate a day like it?
What a great trip down memory lane - this was my first real season following the R's. I was 13. Watched the game on TV with my dad - what a rollercoaster of emotions to experience, what a magnificent come back by a Division 3 underdog against an established Division 1 team and also the first League Cup Final at Wembley. You wouldn't see this type of good natured mixing of supporters today. please log in to view this image
Lads, in the marching picture, what was the idea behind the coffin-carrying and the white sheet KKK garb?
Thanks for that Roller, got to admit that brought a tear to my eye, what a fantastic time that was for the club. As the final picture said, we were the 'Pride of London'. Interesting to see so many of the old faces such as Jimmy Langley, he went on to manage my brother-in-law who played for Hillingdon Borough when they were one of the top non-league sides in the country back in the early 70s...
We did at the Etihad at the end of the 2011/12 season! I was not an R at that time, being 6 and not yet addicted. Lucky those who remember and better still, were there. I don't like to forecast how long I will live, but we certainly can't go another 46 years winning nothing but Championships/Div 2 if I am going to witness it.....
I thought the same..when were we ever affiliated to the klan? I know we have some racists amongst our support, but ever remember us being that bad / as bad as the scum? Ideas?....please?
It has nothing to do with the KKK. The chap in the outfit is dressed as a ghost, the ghost of WBA. Rangers supporter Peter Wall made the coffin and got his friends to dress up in top hat and tails to act as pall bearers, about 3,000 fans marched from Loftus Rd to Wembley with the coffin that had 'RIP WBA' on the side of it. When the they arrived at Wembley they were allowed to leave the coffin in the inner space in the stadium and after the game they collected it and marched back home. Peter Wall's mate, Peter Harrington, another Rangers fan had come up with the idea of the coffin after he had seen a group of Cardiff City supporters back in 1953 getting off a train at Paddington station carrying a coffin with a sign 'RIP Arsenal'.
I was 10 and hated football, but my parents and older brothers had been watching our amazing season in Div 3 that year and persuaded me to go with them. The atmosphere at Wembley got to me from the moment we got there - amazing excitement, camaraderie and high-spirits. Things started "clicking" in my head, and I can remember praying at half-time when we were 2-0 down. The second-half just blew me away, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Another photo of that parade and blog comment........ please log in to view this image http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/completeandutterrubbish/message/27393 "No idea about the KKK interloper. Pretty certain this would be a parade of supporters on their way to the 1967 League Cup Final. Again from memory, the coffin was for the death of WBA, our opponents. M 1967 â but whatâs with the KKK lookalike? J" http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/04/23/article-2313653-197362ED000005DC-660_964x618.jpg
