Orient's Jay Simpson leads the charts with our very own Taylor in 2nd. But if you look at the minutes they both have played, Taylor has played 560 minutes less than Simpson which is 6 games and 20 minutes. If Taylor had played those extra 6 games, while averaging a goal every 130 minutes, he would get the 4 goals needed to take the lead. Not bad for his 1st season at this level. please log in to view this image
I do find him frustrating at times I must admit but fair play to him 20 goals isn't bad for someone whos in their first season of league football
Top Scorers Matty Taylor 20 (21 if you include JPT) Rory Gaffney 7 Ellis Harrison 7 (one in league cup) Billy Bodin 6 Jermaine Easter 6 (7 if you include JPT) Lee Brown 4 Ollie Clarke 2 Cristian Montano Castillo 2 Stuart Sinclair 2 Lee Mansell 1
He has a great workrate which is the type of player we want. He has got 40 goals in 2 seasons (with still games left) which is what we want in a striker. That has helped us get 1 promotion and maybe a 2nd! Its hard to criticise that. But I have to. The amount of chances he wastes is unbelievable. We could have been champions last season instead of 2nd. Yes it didnt matter in th end as we still got promoted via the play offs which was great, which he scored 2 goals in. The chances he has wasted this season, we should be comfortable in the top 3 as Northampton clear of danger of falling into the play offs. And im not talking about half chances, im talking about real quality chances that shouldnt be missed in my opinion! Hopefully we get away with it like last season though. I get frustrated like seamge said. But I dont agree with fans giving him a mouthful at games. I never see why fans do that to our own players. How will that help the player? It wont. Encouragement is needed not abuse!
Lack of goals from the midfield. No goals from Lines! Apart from Brown, I cannot believe no other defenders have scored! Only 1 player in double figures! Taylor got 20 but the other 3 strikers between them got 20. Not enough support from other strikers. Looking at this, how are we 3rd??
Matty Taylor joined us on a free transfer scored 20 last season and I believe scored his 21st goal for this season yesterday. there are strikers who have cost millions who don't have that sort of record. He doesn't just score goals he links up well with other players and works hard for the good of the team. I wish people would the guy a break, just think how well he could do if people didn't slate him, but gave him encouragement
Those BBC stats actually show that minute for minute, chance for chance Matty is the best striker in League 2. Why he still gets criticism is beyond me. There is no striker in the world who doesn't miss plenty. We need to sign him up to a longer, more lucrative contract now as I believe he'd get a hatful in League 1 as well, if we get there.
Bluebaldee if the rumours are true it's to late to sign him up, someone mentioned at the last home game we would have to replace Taylor as he had turned down a new contract and signed for some other club
Aye lads, don't get your feathers up in the wrong place but do you think he could crack it in the Championship, we could be interested?
Well he did stick his penis in the play off trophy which is a typical thing that a City player would do Seriously no, I dont think so. Then again I thought he would struggle this season and he has at times! But he is doing a good job.
I still think people are getting that mixed up with the Matty Taylor who played for Pompey like 8 years ago and was being chased by Hearts and Rangers
Just a facebook rumour like the one about Mildenhall having his contract extended and being paid **** loads of £'s if he played again
I have also heard the rumour about Taylor goint to a Scottish Premier side. I find it difficult to believe as he would be virtually going off the radar up there. Much more believable if he was going to a Championship side, but I think his best option is to stay with us and build his reputation especially if we make League One.
Pre-Wael taking over then I would say we wouldn't have much chance of keeping him, even though the Scottish Prem is a average league at best their is a chance of European football if you go to the right team however now we a few quid in behind I think are chances of keeping now very high
