Good job I don't bet for real these days Ron. I used to dabble a bit on the nags on a Saturday but I haven't seen the inside of a bookies for years now. My dad set me off with horses him having been a stable boy for a man called Captain Sir Boyd Rochford many moons ago. I was a £1 at most gambler and used to have a bet just for interest sake on a Saturday when I watched the racing on the tele. Football was my worst bet as it just never came in whatever bet I did. I'm not holding my breath this weekend and it's only pretend.

That's interesting Greeny; I remember Captain Sir Boyd Rochford. If you like a Saturday flutter, without the risk of losing any money, have a look at my Saturday 6 Racing competition here

I looked him up and see I spelt the trainer wrong and it was Boyd-Rochfort. I have a photo of my dad leading in the St Leger winner in 1941 called Sun Castle. My dad was about 5ft 5ins and as a young man weighed in at next to nothing. He used to ride out for the exercise training. I think the idea was he would train to be a jockey as he was the right size and weight. But the war was on and he joined up, put on weight and by the time it was over the job and idea had passed him by. mind you he used to ride his chair home every race on the box he watched.

To be honest Ron I don't often look at racing these days and have no idea what is running or where. I found that a lot of races had half the horses not even trying and just running for a race course experience. The only time it was truly competitive was at big meetings where they were all trying given the prize money. Hence the bigger prices on offer from the bookies for the winners.

Sorry I burst your bubble Guywanderer...............

I did say that I was crap when it came to football betting and sure enough here is you proof. I promise not to add Wycombe into any further weeks in deference to this being your board and me being a visitor. It isn't fair on you people. None out of 4 selections is about par for my course.
