Adam le Fondre - 12 games (0 goals) Eddie Johnson - 30 (2) Warren Feeney - 20 (0) Kurt Nogan - 17 (1) Ronnie Moore - 56 (6) Dai Thomas - 31 (5) Robbie Fowler - 13 (4) Paul Wheeler - 101 (10) Jon Parkin - 11 (1) Alan Foggon - 17 (1) Derek Showers -83 (10) Andy Campbell - 73 (12) Kenny Milller - 43 (10) Steve Thompson - 97 (16) Kelvin Etuhu - 19 (0) Any others - minimum appearances 10 (so no Cornelius, Velakonja, Lombard, Redan, Ferretti, or 'Dumbu N'Sungu) In my opinion, Le Fondre is not as bad as Warren Feeney who wins the crown.
NIN - far too early yet to write off ALF although his stock in trade viz. hitting the back of the bloody net has been atrocious so far. The one thing we all know is that he can do it unlike Feeney. Warren Feeney was a clown. I watched him miss a sitter against Coventry at NP that my cat could have scored. He was about 6 yards out and had open goal - their keeper was stranded on his arse to one side. He a ran towards the ball with all the time in the world....................and deftly slid it just outside the post........
He won us the game on Friday, thank god he was fouled before he managed to shoot though If he can add goals to his game we'll have a good player, his all round play and movement are great. He's nowhere near the worst we've had.
ALF should be dropped as hes not scoring. However to even mention him amongst our worst ever strikers is ridiculous. Theres more than just scoring. Where are Cameron Toshack and Morris Scott and other players we had in Division 4. Some of them made Feeney look a top player. If he continues misfiring then hes going to be amongst the expensive flops though. Eddie Johnson deserves to be on any list.
Reminds me of Miller in his last season with us, lots of running around but no end product. Macheda's not much better though.
Miller was only with us for one season Bob - and that was one too many. Macheda is not only "not much better" than ALF, he is actually worse. OK, he's hit the net whereas ALF has struggled and you can't argue with that, but that doesn't tell the whole story.
Yes I recall that, watched in amazement. City then missed a last gasp penalty by Purse. (He had also missed one in last minute versus Stoke in the previous home game or that might have been the next home game but we lost both games 1-0)
If I remember correctly, Purse crashed that penalty against the crossbar so hard it was still vibrating the next day. Darren did actually thunder in a cracking shot that season that beat the keeper all ends up against Leicester. Unfortunately, it was our own keeper Enckelman and we lost 0-1........
Really harsh article IMO. ALF will 'come good' I'm sure of it; but, for that to happen, he needs, well, the first goal. His work rate and intelligence off the ball are pretty good and I really think it's just in this head at the moment. A bit of faith please.
Le Fondre was excellent at Reading,in fact he has been quite prolific with his previous three Club's,as per wiki. If he's not scoring for you lot, then perhaps it's not entirely down to him. He'll come good eventually,I'm sure. Too good a player not to.
He's well into double figures for excellent chances missed. His movement might well have created a lot of those but his current lack of goals is 100% down to him.
The article was really a bit of fun to remind us all of past City's strikers who just had trouble notching. If you will note at the foot of my initial post, I did opine Feeney was the worst, based on his nil return. I do hope Le Fondre will net soon, as his industry and endeavour merits a goal.
Well, his goal scoring record prior to joining you is extremely good, and consistent. Something has clearly changed. Perhaps your "excellent chances", weren't so excellent.
VETCH - The "excellent chances" have indeed been excellent, but he's failed to convert them in the manner we know he's capable from his previous history. For the record, I banged on about getting him last January when he was clearly not happy being benched by Adkins at Reading. He was scoring more coming off the bench than we could muster between all our front men. He'd done exactly the same the season before in the Prem with them so should have been an obvious target. I still think if Ole had gone in for him then instead of swapping Odemwingie for Jones, he'd have scored enough in the second half of the season in our Prem setup to have given us a far better chance of staying up - Jones was a waste of time last year. Things seem to have changed and Jones has set his stall out whereas ALF is really struggling in front of goal. I don't know how much more rope Slade can let out to ALF before he has to hook him off and bench him, but the guy can score and will. All this excludes Macheda as a front man pairing with him. To my mind that is a big mistake. Macheda does not do it for me as a leader up front - for a big guy he's very weak in several departments. Jones fit and on form would be my choice, with ALF if Slade wants to persist with a 4-4-2 alongside him. Macheda to the bench PDQ.
Well you'd know best, having seen none of the mentioned chances Yes something has changed, he's lost his finishing touch. If it returns we'll have a superb striker, as if you put the 5-7 goals he should have scored this season (with a reasonable conversion ratio) on his performances we'd be in the playoff places and he'd look like the bargain of the season. If he keeps missing it's debatable how much longer we can persist with him. Moments like the penalty against Reading will help keep the pressure off if he does keep missing tbf.
In the same way you're running out of excuse for Alf's lack of goals, now Macheda has blanked a couple of games I'm struggling to defend the rest of his performance. I think there is a case for KWJ but my main issue is when he plays he offers a cheap 'out ball' for the rest of the side. We definitely hoof the ball at KWJ much more so than when we play Macheda. As a result I think we play better as a side at home with Macheda despite the fact Macheda doesn't play that well himself (which sounds daft even to me )! Then there's the question of why would we change anything at home? The last performance was worrying but once again we are 3 points better off. 4 from 4 really does answer it's own question for Slade. I think KWJ with a busy player (alf or daehli) off him could work a lot better away from home where we struggle to play any sort of football anyway and Macheda's lack of physicality is a bigger issue.
