I got these off of the CAFC Charlton page so you can take these rumours with a pinch of salt if you like.

Apparently we are rumoured to be interested in signing Adam Le fondre from rotherham, Dean Cox from orient and Leon Legge from Brentford.

What do you think about the potiential signings of these 3 players?

To me it would show we mean real business next season and that we are finally showing we want to get out of this league by not relying on whatever freebies we can attract.

Cox is a smashing little player with two good feet, a willingness to commit his opposite number and an eagerness to whip early ball into the box.

Le Fondre is a proper goal scorer and you can't have too many of those in your squad.

    Legge i know nothing about.

We are in desperate need of at least two powerful, commanding and pacey centre halves. This imo must be our priority!

Mate couldn't agree more log on just about to write about this because it is great news. Also heard about semedo if he goes replace him with Bailey but I reckon he may cost a good 600k

I'd be surprised if we got any of those three anyway to be honest. I'd love to have Bailey back. He always put a shift in for us and pitched in with more than his fare share of goals for a central midfielder.

Franco5 - leon legge is a centre half. Hes 6ft 4 so im not sure if he'll be that pacy but definately physical enough but aswell hes only 26 so atleast he wont be nearing the end of his career like current centre backs we have. He also scored Brentfords winner at the valley this season in the 90th min!

And id take bailey back in a heartbeat! Say what you will about him but he gave everything in the heart of our midfield and would also seem to score a goal of some significance be it a goal to snatch a draw or a winner!

Sounds promising Belverdere. When was the last time we had an imposing, powerful, athlete in the heart of our defence?

hmmm thats a tricky one lol if you look back at recent years at what we've had -

    07/08 - Bougherra, Fortune, Mccarthy
08/09 - Fortune, Hudson and then all the loanees primus, ward, etc
    09/10 - Llera, Dailly, Sodje
10/11 - Llera, Dailly, Doherty, Fortune

The quickest and most athletic out of them all has to be sodje but he made mistakes too frequently and liked getting sent off :/

I doubt there was any substance to those rumours to be honest. Think Parky was quoted 1million for Le Fondre last summer so can't see how his price would have dropped so much, regardless of a poor season/ending contract. Also he's openly stated he wouldn't move south.

As for Cox and Legge, yes decent players for this league but how is aiming to sign Leyton Orient/Brentford/Rotherham players going to get us firing into the Championship?

Le Fondre has to be anaesthetised before every game just to get him to cross the border from Lancashire to Yorkshire - we won't be seeing him.

You cant really say just because they play for leyton orient/brentford or rotherham that they arent good enough to get us out of this league. There are players in most teams in this league that have the potiential to play at a higher level and could do a great job for us. If we shouldnt be looking at signing players from clubs in the same division as us or the best from the league below were should we be looking? barcelona?

    Lets look at some examples
Nick Bailey from southend(league 1) to charlton (championship) - Our best player that season
Steve Morison - Stevenage (conference) to Millwall (league1) - Scores for fun
charlie austin - poole town (whatever league there in) to Swindon (league 1) - Was arguably the best striker in league 1 this and last season

Point is you should always look around you for players never know what you could find.

    Here's another few examples...

Izale Mcleod, MK dons to Charlton
    Luke Varney, Crewe to Charlton
    Alan McCormack, Southend to Charlton
    Simon Francis, Southend to Charlton
Stuart Fleetwood, Forest Green to Charlton
Chris Dickson, Dulwich Hamlet to Charlton
Luke Holden, Rhys (?) To Charlton

Flops really outweigh the success stories in my opinion :)

yeah i know theres been lots of flops especially for us although it is a bit harsh to put Francis in there i feel. With Cox and Legge though it wont be a gamble because they are proven in this league.

Who do you propose we buy then?

proven championship players? Shockingly they are in the championship and won't drop down. Buying the best there is in league one is what we need to well...be the best in league one,

Francis is in that list because a) I think he's awful b) he was brought in as a replacement to Richardson, but has been no-where near as good, therefore being a flop c) because about 75% of Charlton fans agree that he is rubbish.

Ryan, there are plenty of championship players who would be willing to drop down either for game time or for the challenge. However if we can't find anyone like this, then going by the idea that we should be going after 'the best in League One', then why are we being linked with Cox, Legge and Le Fondre, rather than Pilkington, Fonte and Mckail-Smith (I'm not saying we have a chance of getting these, just suggesting the players who are really some of the best in this league).
We also apparently have plenty of scouts abroad who could actually earn their wages for once and find a few gems.

Is mccormack leaving because he is pony? Nicky bailey created most our goals last season, and dean cox is solid and we could really do with his attacking presence.
