http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892...itch-from-liverpool-to-newcastle?ICID=HP_BN_2 Liverpool's Lazar Markovic is considering an approach from Newcastle United as he looks to resurrect his career in England, Goal understands. The 22-year-old has fielded plenty of enquiries from abroad, most notably from Sporting Lisbon who were prepared to pay £16 million to sign him permanently. The Serbian was not interested in returning to Portugal, where he celebrated a treble with Benfica, while Schalke and AC Milan also explored the possibility of recruiting him. Markovic is Rafael Benitez’s first-choice option to strengthen his attack out wide ahead of West Brom winger Callum McManaman, and the three-time SuperLiga winner is open to dropping down to the Championship for a restart. Newcastle are prepared to go above and beyond to convince the player to make the switch to St James' Park, either on loan or on a long-term deal. Given Sporting were willing to part with £16m for Markovic, Liverpool will count that figure as his valuation for a permanent move.
It's rubbish - There is no interest from us. This story started on goal.com. We are after Atsu and McManaman. Atsu is to have a medical today or tomorrow, McManaman is expected within the next few days.
McManaman isnt gonna happen. Atsu is a done deal. Markovic was enquired about, Liverpool seem keen to do a Loan deal with the option to buy but supposidely want that aption to be more of a clause, meaning we have to sign him no matter what, which we of course arent keen on. A striker will also come in 100% with Riv out, Armstrong off to rotherham it leaves us with 3/4 strikers including ayoze who wont be played as an out an out striker. Rafa wants one more in and it could be the biggest signing of the lot!
We have done some good business this window and there is little to complain about, but..... I am a tad disappointed to think that Gayle, good as l think he will be for us, was our best striker signing. Maybe we will get another striker in, as Murphey has to be seen as cover for either Mitro or Gayle. This late in the window the chances of a "coup" must be remote and l hope we have enough upfront, but would feel so much better if we had a guaranteed hitman leading the line, especially as we seem to have found where our previous manangers had hidden it.
Probably the Spurs connection plus Sunderland for whatever reason seem an unattractive proposition at present. I think they also look such low spenders that players are concerned. Ellis must be coining it in with all the money that is going into PL clubs.
