It looks like rumours have linked Liverpool with this youngster from Serbia that plays for my local team. While the price is reportedly too high for Liverpool I feel that he would bring an attacking flair we so desperately need.

His name is Lazar Markovic, and he is only 17 years old. He made his breakthrough this season, and has already graduated from our famed academy. Partizan have produced many young players, and currently have the second best academy in Europe, according to UEFA. Some previous players to come through our ranks are:

Mateja Kezman - 122 appearances for PSV, 105 goals. He played for Chelsea as well, you may remember his goal against us (LFC) in the final of the 2005 CC, in the 112th minute.
Simon Vukcevic - Plays for Blackburn now, scored against Sunderland a month ago.
Radosav Petrovic - Also plays for Blackburn, hasn't impressed much but is only 22.
Stefan Savic - Plays for Manchester City, transferred for 10 million in the summer, has had a shaky start, with highlights such as clean sheets against Bayern and Villareal, but lows such as the penalty conceded to us last week. Only just turned 21, very prospective.
Stevan Jovetic - one of Europe's hottest talents, plays for Fiorentina, scored twice against us last time we were in the CL and is incredible with the ball.
Zoran Tosic - Signed for United for 7 or 8m but was never given a chance, as Ferguson kept trying to play Obertan. Was the best reserve player and recieved very few senior call-ups despite impressing. Sent on loan to Koln and then sold to CSKA, at which he found form and is a starter in the CL as well.
Adem Ljajic - Signed by United who then cancelled the transfer due to lack of funds (given as work permit problems, which there weren't many chances of). Plays for Fiorentina and is considered a top talent in Europe.

+ many others.

As you can see, our academy has experience with sending players to higher leagues, even the Premier League. Now, on to Markovic.

Lazar is 17 years old and has incredible pace and positioning. He knows how to get by a player, not always with stoppovers and dribbles but with speed (think Krasic - but more skillfull)

His assist is at :51 seconds in, he is the player that keeps the ball in and assists.

He has a good shot as well, for a 17 year old he knows how to finish very well, for example:

and

(35 seconds in)

A few negatives are that he doesn't have quite the necessary physique for the Premier league yet, as in playing 90 minutes week in and week out. 17 is also a bit too young. LFC would have to find him an English course, a school and accomodations for his family, and possibly go through FIFA before signing him. He is valued at 3.5m pounds on transfermarkt but is highly unlikely to leave for under 10m pounds.

The Serbian League certainly isn't anywhere near the Prem in terms of quality, however it is a very physical league (as opposed to the technical leagues like Spain and Italy). This will have helped him understand the strength of it and the tackles, knocks he will face, etc.
He certainly is one for the future, and seeing as we have been linked to him, I thought I'd share what I know. I don't believe he will transfer this winter, but maybe in the summer.
Here is an overview of all his highlights this season:

He's been linked as a fan of Chelsea, but he had this to say:

"Liverpul je veliki klub i zašto bi ih neko odbio. Ne krijem da sam navijač Čelsija, želja mi je da igram u tom klubu, ali ko zna gde će me odvesti profesionalna karijera. Ipak, ja sam u ovom trenutku vezan isključivo za Partizan i želim da se u narednih nedelju dana što bolje odmorim pred nastavak šampionata - kaže Marković."

In translation: "Liverpool is a big club, why would anyone ever turn them down? I'm not hiding that I am a fan of Chelsea and I'd like to play for that team, but who knows where my professional career will take me. Still, at this moment I am tied emotionally to Partizan and wish to rest for the next week to prepare myself before the championship continues" - says Markovic.

When asked about comparisons to Michael Owen: "Oven je legenda Liverpula i engleskog fudbala i prija mi poređenje s njim. Međutim, daleko sam ja još od njega i treba mnogo da radim da bih mu se približio" - dodao je Lazar Marković.

Translation: "Owen was a legend of English football and a Liverpool legend, and I enjoy the comparisons to him. However, I am not close to his skills yet and I need much work to come close to them" - added Lazar Markovic.

Allegedly his representatives have travelled to Merseyside to discuss terms with Comolli and Dalglish plus local media are reporting a sum of around 11m, but I feel that is a bit too far for this transfer window.
I'd say at this moment the rumours are about 2/5 in terms of accuracy but there are certainly PL eyes on him.

Enjoy.

No, I really don't. They however, do seem to connect him to LFC. And I, as probably the only member to have seen this lad play in person and to know a thing or two about him, have decided to share what I know with the people on this forum, just in case anyone was interested.

Think they slapped 14 mil price tag on him and Kenny is saying no now? We are also interested in Jaoa Teixeira as well ( youngsters). So you sure you are not red star danilo :)

Definitely not Bluff, it's a despicable club :D

And yes to be honest our president has announced he will not leave at any price, and will stay at least 3 more seasons. Considering he said this about all the players I mentioned and the massive infighting going on now, it's just paving a way to the club in the summer. It's expensive but he truly is a talent.

well i've no clue so am relaxed about it. we're staring 6th in the face so hopefully the top 4 will claim the carling cup if we don't and the fa cup so the europa is assured... whomever we buy it will be part of a longer process... city too 3 years to get cl football, if we take 2 full ones i'll still be delighted.

So I wrote this about 2 years ago. I could add to it but I'm stuck on mobile and you all know my posts are basically miniature novels.

He's doubled his value since then. I could say I told you so but then thats obvious :)

All jokes aside this is how he played 2 years ago and wince this is an analysis of a potential target id appreciate not having this merged with the transfer thread.

nothing is done yet and cheslea have the option to match his price.

In short if we buy him he is cheap enough still and frankly if chelsea want him they'll just take him....

I was sceptical given his price age and stats but if he's player mostly out on the wing then that'll explain the lack of goals.

I get the impression he's similar to Sterling with the defensive ability? Quick winger type who can also play inside off the main striker and will contribute 5-10 goals a season.

For £20m if he lives up to his promise it could be a bargain but hopefully the big price tag won't put extra pressure on him. Doubt we can expect miracles in his first season in a new league, especially the Prem which is hard to adapt to. £20m on someone who may not be ready for a season of two when with Suarez going we need everyone to be able to perform to keep us in CL is a big risk.

torres was 23 and record was not good... but we were making him an icon before he arrived.

Perosnally the man i am backing this year is coutinho. If he kicks on with sturridge LFC could be well served and frankly if we've a choice between 34mil on sanchez (who has no interest) and shaqrir (who is firmly on the apron strings at bayern) then if we get this kid fine. At least danilo says he looks very good.

I'll definitely update the thread. I've seen a lot of him since. When you're resigned to selling off your academy players for survival you get a kick out of following their careers.

Markovic was exclusively a winger at Partizan but got a free role in attacking at one point. His goal tally lowered a bit when the entire club relied on him to do absolutely everything. At Benfica he started at winger and wide forward, with the role of assisting the goalscorers (Lima, Rodrigo). However he eventually received the same challenge as Sterling in the 10 role where his creativity shone. His passing is very visionary and he's good at through balls. Dribbling is still a strength. He's pacy as well but it isn't his main tool.

19m pounds is a lot but if we nurture him like we do with Sterling we can have a future superstar on our hands. He has the Messi/Hazard skill set (not saying he's close to that level). As for Chelsea, the majority of contract reports come from a mistranslation from Partizan's president. After that wishful thinking kicked in and Chelsea bloggers/ sports journos put 2+2 together to get 5. No legitimate source to any rumour.

Nice summary.

Chelsea dont need him! They have Oscar, Willian, Schurrle, Hazard, Salah, Atsu and Marin.

I'm happy very happy if we can pull this off - one of the brightest youngsters in world footballer. Has the potential to become world class.

I'd say Sterling is probably better than Markovic at this moment in time (in terms of overall ability) but I believe Markovic has a higher ceiling of potential. We'll have the fastest attack in the league.

well I like the cheslea test.. first off any young man going to look at hey live got LFc and a big wage and a real chance to shine and move to a big spanish club or bayern after OR I can go the cheslea, get a bigger wage and go on loan to nobodies, not get near LC and might at the end be rich but could be a bench wamrer in alter life...

well ok most egoist footballers would think they'd displace oscar, willian and hazard but we all know why salah joined chalsea <ok>

If a footballer fails the chelsea test (as in joins them knowing 10 others stand in his way) then we don't need him as he lacks ambition.

If we offer the month, trigger his release and he dawdles on joining to get more money elsewhere then fine move on.
