I know! I know! We've ALL been guilty of climbing on the ref's back when he's dropped a clanger, but just take a look at what the consequences could be if we pile too much pressure on them! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15890525.stm
My understanding is that there is more to the story than is reported there. I remember there being something about match fixing with German referees, and that guy might of even been the whistleblower for that?
Towards the end of the article he says the fear of making mistakes added to the pressure causing an increase in his depression, leading to the feeling of being unable to cope! There certainly was a match-fixing scandal in Germany a couple of years ago, so there could well be some truth in that rumour!
Just when things couldn't get any worse! We've got Eddy Ilderton as referee tomorrow You boys know all about him! We're doomed I tell ye, DOOMED!
Think we need technology in the game before all the refs commit hari kari as mooted for next season. Still I hope the guy sorts out his depression and his life have you considered it could be his other profession causing the problems, being a banker must be stressful these days.
Good luck with Ilderton E. An unwarranted penalty, You may have to pay If he gets his way And Jewell sent away, you´ll see.
