"Tottenham's 5-1 defeat in the FA Cup semi-final flattered Chelsea and I don't care what anyone else says - awarding the Blues their second goal when the ball did not cross the line completely decided the outcome of that match. At the same time, Spurs are just not firing at the moment. All of a sudden they have started to make mistakes at the back and, whoever they play, they look very vulnerable. They did not look secure at Wembley, even though Scott Parker was back for that game. There are still some good individual performances but they are not quite clicking as a team and I just wonder if they have tensed up a bit, because it does happen sometimes at this stage of the season. Spurs played some absolutely brilliant football for weeks and weeks but they have not really looked like their old selves for a couple of months now. I don't buy the theory that they have slumped because of the speculation linking Harry Redknapp with the England job. It might have had a little effect but the biggest factor for me would be what has happened to them mentally. It is a bit like a golfer playing really well and leading a tournament going into the final day and, instead of relaxing and playing and showing everyone what a good player he is, he is trying to almost guide the ball around the course, which doesn't work. In a football sense, Tottenham are doing that. Every mistake they make tends to be punished and they are thinking about things a bit too much. It's unfortunate for them because, when they are confident and playing football at their best, they are a really good side to watch. QPR keeping winning then losing - but that is fine as long as it keeps their head above water. Djibril Cisse is back from suspension, which will help them here - as long as he manages to stay on the pitch this time. Rangers' run-in is particularly tough on paper but, like I said with Blackburn's fixtures, who is to know what will happen in the next few weeks? Chelsea have got the second leg of their Champions League semi-final to play before they play QPR, and they have got the FA Cup final the week after. Mark Hughes' side have to go to Manchester City on the last day, but City might not have anything to play for by then." Prediction: 1-1 (Source: BBC Football website) Steve Cram - that god of football punditry - has us marked down for 2-3 loss. Lawro also has Newcastle winning, so he reckons that, come the end of the weekend, we'll already be down to 5th.
Why are the Geodries and Spuds obsessed with Lawro's predictions? And why do they always act so shocked when he gets them wrong? Just curious.
I cant stand Lawro but to be fair to him I think he is dead right about our season. There should be no reason for the slump in form that we have seen, ok, you can say that players are tired and have played too much, but 1 game a week shouldnt be too much for these guys. We do look nervous and look like we are trying to hard, we need to relax and get back to basics. Really look at our remaining 5 games. 4 teams from the bottom 7 and Fulham at home, we should fairly comfortably win all remaining games.
We aren't particularly. His predictions get mentioned 4 or 5 times a season, I reckon. It's always nice to see Lawro hasn't jinxed us by prediciting a win though.
it's more a jinx thing. We always worry if he says we'll win because 9 times out of 10 it means we won't. Also it's funny how wrong he gets it
I know, think we are something like 14 points off what he predicted, champions league spots. Maybe we have the jinx.
There are two things guaranteed to cause us to lose: 1.) Mark Clattenburg or Chris Foy refereeing our matches 2.) Mark Lawrenson predicting us to win If the two things co-incide, we may as well just send out the youth team.
He's right about our form, but wrong about the reasons behind it, in my opinion. Tiredness and Redknapp's ridiculous reaction to the England job becoming available are the two biggest factors, for me. As for every mistake being punished, we're also being punished when we're not making mistakes, which doesn't help.
Not a big fan of Lawro, the thing I remember him getting wrong the most is him predicting Norwich to struggle desperately and probably get relegated from League 1 two seasons ago. How wrong he was
Lawro has no more insight than us..if anything we know more about our club than he does so fek off Lawro..however..i agree with his prediction..and made it a long time before he did the depressing twat...arrgh i hate looking at him incase i have a mental breakdown!
Zingy, why do you give Newcastle one of their proper nicknames, but refer to us by the derogatory term 'Spuds'?
The thing with Lawro is that he will always do a downer on a side that's lost recent form (as we have), and then start backing them to win when they start to prove him wrong, by getting back to winning ways. He never seems to be able to predict when a good team will start to come good. He predicted that we'd beat Norwich, but we got stuffed. He also saw us get stuffed by Chelsea at Wembley. So, instead of thinking that we're still a good side that's been stung and are now motivated to ensure that we make no more slip-ups, he simply follows our recent run of form. Same with 'Pool. Last season, he was predicting a win every game and he was made to look like a fool. For most of this season, he's been predicting 'Pool losses or draws. But recently, he's started to predict 'Pool wins, although I sense that this is purely as a result of their cup form, rather than their league form, which remains dismal. I cannot believe that Lawro gets paid for the crap he comes out with.
I think it's still safe not to smile after Lawro's Toon friendly prediction... his crystal ball must constantly be in the repairs shop.
The annoying thing is, my thinking is Football like most sports is a mental game. With Arsenal slipping up, Spurs can look up and can target a 3rd place. It would give Spurs a psychological edge in the hunt. I would much rather Spurs have the pressure of looking behind them and put less of their focus on preparing for their game. It's like Boxing, 6 weeks before a bout your focused on one thing, preparing physically and mentally on the task in hand. If your 6 weeks from a fight and your either wallowing on your lat performance or looking to another fight then you go into your upcoming fight not-ready, an unready fighter will lose. I hope you understand what I mean.
I dont think Lawro has predicted a correct result and i mean wins or draws for QPR all season and hes supposed to be professional pundit who gets paid
