Laurent Koscielny tells Arsene Wenger to sign FOUR players including a top striker

"We'll need a goalkeeper, a right back, a midfielder and a striker," said Koscielny at France's pre-World Cup training camp.

"It's important to have a minimum of these four players so that we'll be better able to challenge over the course of a whole season against teams like Manchester City, Chelsea or [Manchester] United. Winning the FA Cup can change things and lead to other players coming."

"Yes, we need to recruit a very, very good striker, because it's important for us, for competition for places, because Olivier needs that to become even better," said Koscielny.

"Having a striker who scores more than 30 goals a season can help us win the Premier League. Compared to the squads like Manchester City, even United, Chelsea. ... You can see there's a certain difference."

Looks like one of our main players has come out with what all of us have been saying for a while. But the likelihood of us buying 4 top players, let alone 2 is not happening (i'm referring to top quality and not bargain basement buys) . He also has an indirect dig at Giroud, saying he needs the competition bollocks. Which really translates to he's too **** for us.

I posted this in summer transfer rumours but being that one of our main players said it, then i think its something to talk about. Quite a big thing to come out with in my opinion, as he appears to doubt that we can be competitive at the highest level. Something in complete contrast to Wenger.

Your manager should listen to Koscielny.
I know our manager can be a gobsh!te, but your manager lives on another planet.
I would say Koscielny has got it spot on here.
This will annoy most of you but I dont see it being fixed whilst Wenger at your club. He has done a great job of consolidating your financial position and getting decent results on a budget, but now everything is in place for you to kick on and win things, Wenger will just sit back, insist his current squad is good enough and play his 1 dimensional football.
Maybe I am wrong and Ozil was a sign of things to come.......but I doubt it, I guess we will find out in the next couple of weeks.

If David Ornstein's tweet yesterday is right then a GK, RB, ST and DM are exactly what the club is trying to sign. Time will tell, of course...

Did he say DM? I saw him mention the other three but not a DM and I remember thinking - awesome, one new player on last season. Sounds like something we'd do.

Note the usual caveat of 'if right deal available', which won't please many...

Season after season he does nothing for weeks.
Then makes a couple of half arsed bids on a decent player before said player eventually signs for someone else.
Then shrug his shoulders and say the right players were not available.

Then with a week of the window left, he will sign a 30 year old African player of moderate fame on a free transfer, then maybe get some 20 year old Slovakian kid who no one has heard of for £6m and say that your squad is ready for the new season.

No chance. He's been one of our best players for the past couple years and he's been responsible for our overall good defensive record. His position is nailed on. It would take a brave Wenger to replace him.

Have you been reading Wenger's "Secret to success in the transfer market and then buy **** all" book?

For all that he did to improve your teams usual 4th place finish he might as well have been.
He's a great player, but wasnt what you needed.
You needed a DM and a CF.
And that was what....one major signing, in the last 10 years.

If you count the FA Cup as a major trophy these days, which I do.
    But Arsene doesnt.
He prefers to scrape the top 4 every year so you can qualify to be knocked out of the second round of the Champions League again.

Ozil was not part of any master plan. He became available suddenly and it seems that no-one else went for him, so he ended up at Arsenal.

I imagine he'd rather both. I don't doubt you're right that he'd prioritise CL football due to the money generated but he'll also know what a massive boost winning a trophy is (and how much it was needed at the club).

Well Arsenal did manage to close the gap between themselves and the champions by a significant margin too? Arsenal haven't been that close to winning it (points wise) since the 2007-08 season. I would say all in, its a pretty good season with the FA Cup too. All you can hope to do is close the gap year on year, if you do that eventually you will get there. However, no question Wenger needs to bring in some quality for sure, especially up front.
