Time for a smug thread i think. Laudrup is proving to be the real deal isnt he? i think nearly all of us were bowled over when such a legend of world football became our manager, it was difficult to beleive how far the club had come anyway but to make this guy manager was surely one of the most unexpected and welcome appointments ever made. There wasnt many guys out there that could have extinquished the flames of Rodgers moving on at such a crucial time(centinery year, big increase in prem prize money, second season syndrome,no caulker,no gylfi,no Allen,no sinclair and taylor out for the season) but the guy has just calmly walked the walk without talking the talk! in fact he just talks total common sense to me ! there has been zero fuss from him and zero bullshit, the guy never even lost his mojo when the senior pro's were ****ing with his methods and throwing their toys out the pram on the USA tour. His signings (and of course i include eric larsen in this) have been top notch, i dont think we have missed caulker, sinclair, gylfi, allen and taylor as much as we thought we would, you have to put that down to the manager and no one else, he chose the right players for the right club and has intergrated them very well with what we already have. I dont see any clique's either, something that let rodgers down was him always playing sinclair no matter what, even with gylfi when he wasnt playing well, if somebody does it on the pitch they stay in the team!! how refreshing is that!! Dyer comes in,scores and starts next game- simple! Monk comes in and does well so he keeps Chico on the bench-simple! Credit to him i have to say Laudrup= total class No matter what happens this season i dont think the club could have got it any better, rodgers would have struggled to keep us up and whoever else would have come along IMO would have the same problem. Laudrup took this job under no illusions, he knew it was going to be difficult to keep up a club with probably the smallest budget in the prem league but he took the job anyway! that = total class !! he obviously thinks he can do well, i know for a fact him and larsen are absolutly desperate to do well here, to know that he is concentrating hard on acheiving things here fills me with pride. We dont know yet how the season will go but ive seen enough to be happy, i hope we do well but its a hard league and im under no illusions, but i dont think we could have got a better apointment than Laudrup. Time to appreiciate the manager once again i think, we have finally moved on
I think we all have wanted to love Laudrup from day 1 but have waited to see if he can hack it here in the prem league. He has shown to have good qualities and even though there were some players still pining for Brendens loving touch he just got on with building his new team regardless of what the old gaurd thought, you dont play for Barca,Madrid,Juventus and Ajax if you lack mental strength and what he did in the game is enough to keep certain pro's in check no matter their ego's. A lesser man might have imploded when the media speculation and stories surfaced, i heard about what happened on the USA tour and was suprised at the timing of it all, maybe a coach leaving for Liverpool was the catalyst for it im not sure but the fact he took it in his stride spoke volumes to me. The fans had his back over that as well, 99% of us would hate to see ego surface to harm our club and if players didnt know where the land layed they certainly did afterwards!! That seemed to clear alot of air and it no doubt helped that Laudrup kept calm and just talked sense at all times. It was a difficult begining for him and Larsen, but they seem to be growing into the job week by week. I think tactically he got it spot on against Newcastle, he exposed them time and time again at the back and we have failed to do that under rodgers many many times by taking the safe option with the ball. He has a football brain and it looks like he can coach and improve players, routledge being a classic example. Time will tell but if he keeps us up this season i think he could take us to the next level, with financial fair play coming in it might be the right time for us too,it certainly makes a big difference to see a guy just do the job and make little fuss compared to a guy that did the job and let everyone know he was doing it good !! even when he wasnt..
Welcome to camp Laudrup! Glad to have you on board sir, and another good post Norway! I'm out of Rep power at the moment, spent it all on the Toon board last night, but when I get my re charge back, I'll Rep you good and proper.................
Dont think ive ever been outside of the camp Dragon!! There has however been a reluctunce to maybe show him the love like we did with Brenden, it was the same with Sousa after Roberto!! us Jacks dont make good rebound lovers.. The premier league is so difficult though you are almost too scared to tempt fate by saying anything too positive like "we are definatly staying up" look at Norwich beating Man utd and Reading beating Everton FFS !! I just wanted to put something out there where we can have a nice smug Laudrup love in for a few days, yes the snipers will bang me over the head with it when we get a bad run but **** em !! when stuff is not right i like to say so, when stuff is good i like to say so !! keeping things on an even keel is for the players, coaches, managers and chairmen ..not the fans
Good post. It's quite noticeable that Laudrup Isn't getting the props he should get. Largely because he doesn't draw attention to himself. He keeps under the radar because he doesn't feed the media with meaningless sound-bites. To talk about him, the have to actually watch the games and do their research which the lot on the bbc just can't be bothered to do.
Totally agree Norway, although I think if Chico had been fully fit he would have been back in. He only came back to training on Thursday so it would probably have been a risk starting him
Yes, its a good point about him flying under the radar . We all loved Brendens soundbites didnt we? after a while though they sometimes got a bit cringeworthy! for me when Laudrup says something you tend to want to listen! im really happy with the win and listening to laudrups interview he stated that we had many chances and it was our best away performance..cant argue with that to be fair. i think we have lost just 1 in 7 now (correct me if im wrong) which is very good going for a new team and manager
I'm glad that Laudrup has slipped under the media radar to some extent; Rodgers courted the media at every turn now it's clear that he was angling to increase his profile for a move to a bigger club. Big congrats to Laudrup and the boys tonight. The Jack army was in fine voice as well from what I could hear on the laptop speakers. I was so pleased when Laudrups name came up for the job, given one of the other names touted was Chrissy Coleman ( and look how badly Wales are going at the moment) Laudrup was the fans choice from day one. Excellent post Norway, I always enjoy reading your views (even though I don't comment a great deal I do read them). Da iawn SCFC!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For me his best quality is his ability to right the wrongs. And I use the term wrongs very loosely. I mean how many times can we say our second half has been much better than our first half? A poor away performance last week followed by a magnificent one this week. Dropping michu back into the hole where he is most effective, starting dyer after picking it up a bit. He just seems to be able to adapt to his immediate surroundings with ease. His subs are always the correct ones, when the tactics are off he adjusts them half time and we come out more effective. This is his first shot at the premier league so he is still learning exactly how the football is played here. I think if we can keep on to him for the long run then we have a very bright future ahead indeed.
Tell you what lads Monk had a great game today and really stood up to the bombardment. That was one player today who was most definitely playing for the team and manager. If ML can motivate a player like that who knows he's not first choice then he's alright in my book and should be with al you lot too
Thanks steve He does seem to know his way around the subs bench doesnt he swans m ! intresting point about second half play, i remember back in the summer Laudrup talking about players not being fit for the start of the season,it was something along the lines of "if the players are fit at the start of the season then they will be burnt out in a short time,we build up our fitness as the season goes on" those arnt the words but the sentiment is similar, i notice our second half play always seems to be better, the commentator mentioned that alot of our goals are scored after the 60th minute, maybe thats because of our fitness regeime and because we keep the ball better?? our defensive frailty often means we hang on at the end though. Im wondering what will be on offer in January, he has mentioned that a striker might be on the cards, if he finds another gem like Michu to play up front it could be scary watching us play football!!
Monk had a good game indeed, im not a fan of his at this level but credit to both him and laudrup . Monk has asked questions and thrown the gauntlet down to Chico, that can only be good for the team, i think laudrup is fair and whoever wears the shirt has the right to keep it if they perform.
And i never thought i would say that about Monk but there we go thats what makes football the game it is..from hero to zero and back to hero..
I have a feeling he's in it for the long run as long as he and Larsen can work under satisfactory conditions. I think only Barca or Real could snap him within the next 2-3 years to be honest. He's loaded and has won anything imaginable and it seems his priorities are different now and more concerned with development of players.
Probably yes, but i think that is more like an open standing job offer for whenever he feels like it.
