Laudrup Sacked

Don't need any bells to be rung to be honest, thanks all the same....

They were already ringing from last season!! I could see as early as the start of last season it was difficult to get a full 90 minutes of football out of the team. Don't think the Europa, injuries or any other excuse, we're relevant then. Hard work, grit & willing are needed as much as skill to succeed. To often, unfortunately, that's been lacking under a Laudrup team. I'm really disappointed the way it's worked out for him. He's a legend in football as a player, but that doesn't always mean you'll be the same as a manager. We are who we are, if we are good enough to stay in this league, we have the right to stay here. Don't think anyone thinks we have a god's given right too!!

You mean the guy that led us to 9th in the league, even after a terrible run after the league cup win.
Or was it as early as the 5-0 thrashing of QPR?
Or was it after the first 3 competitive games which we won?
Or was it after November which we did not lose a game, picking up 9 points, even though we played Chelsea, Newcastle, Southampton, West Brom and Liverpool.
Or was it after we beat Arsenal at the Emirates to put us on 23 points by the 1st of December?
Or was it at the end of December, when we were sitting pretty on 28 points after 20 games?
Or was it just before the Capital One cup win, where after 27 games, we were sitting on 37 points. Which is usually the safety mark, with 11 games to go?

Yet you could see then that is was all going pear shaped from early last season, that is interesting.

Last time I looked, Newcastle got battered at home by Sunderland!! Think that could've been a similar scenario on Saturday against our bitterest rivals, had Michael stayed....

Last time I looked, Newcastle after 24 games, are already on 37 points, and pretty much guaranteed to be a Premier League club next season, but then I am sure you are not silly enough to think 1 game defines a season, oh wait!!

The point I was making, was that early last season we had games when the team didn't always give enough commitment during matches. Noticed it at the time, but thought these were early teething issues with Laudrup's new team. But that side of his team has remained there to this day. Sure we had fantastic games & results, but that side of Laudrup's team I think a few fans have struggled to accept. You still can't get away from the fact that post Capital one final we've had consistent relegation form!! At what stage has it appeared that was going to be arrested. You can spruce up all different milestones from last season, but the longer he was in charge the closer we were getting to the trap door.

Well we'll see how Newcastle's season carries on post Cabaye exit. Maybe they'll have the same uninspiring end of season we had last year....

The backbone of the team was in place and he was backed by the board in the Jan transfer window for once. Sousa lasted 1 season as did ML in reality....HJ was bored with him after one season.

Fact is the board is made up of relatively small time business owners who are now running a multimillion $ club... and I think they have just come unstuck.

you actually believe your own crap dont you.....Its well known that laudrup never had anything to do with us winning the league cup or finishing in 9th place. He just happened to take over an organized side not knowing who swansea were let alone the players. so you have got to be insane to think he should take the glory. He never had much input until after we won the cup and got us safe for another season as it was curtis who guided laudrup on how we play and what the players can do, Once he did take charge we went to pot and we continued to go downhill from that moment on......everyone who works at the liberty knows that laudrup had no part and was just an observer getting to know the players for most of his first season 8 wins since then should tell you that..

Was he also getting to know Ki, JDG, Michu, Chico, Davies, Pablo, Routledge. Players that even Curtis wouldn't have known that well on the pitch.

Can't believe some of the bollox on here ...

Simply distilled from an outside perspective ... Laudrup brought in Michu (amongst others of quality) ... but without Michu you would not, IMHO, have had that stellar season last time around and would still be waiting for the first major trophy in your history ... like it or not, Laudrup's name will be forever entrenched in the history of Swansea City FC as the first and, for now at least, only manager to have won a major trophy ...

Wow! Just logged on and Laudrup's gone. Shouldn't have gone to bed so early! Well I've waded through this thread and it's divided opinion to say the least.

Personally, I think it might be a blessing. For all the good times (and we tend to remember the highlights only) his record has been poor since the final. I was disappointed he threw in the towel the game before when Liverpool beat us 5 - 0 and it's been downhill in the league since. Every time we've had a good result it was all optimism and hope but nothing sustainable. We CAN play well but it's been incredibly patchy, why? The worst thing for me has been the gutless nature of performances, i.e. the Cardiff game. That's inexcusable IMO.

It's a gamble, obviously, by the board but we're in relegation form and that wasn't going to suddenly change with ML in charge (no matter how much optimism I have). Optimism can even blind you to the stark reality of the situation (personally speaking). So... It's done now, let's move forward and be positive.

The timing seems strange with the derby, FA Cup and Napoli up next but if we needed a spark it is NOW. Whether this materialises time will tell. I would now make Michu captain for his passion and to lead the Spaniards.

seems to me the older players didn't like the foreigners who came in and made you a decent EPL side, caused a lot of ****, split the dressing room, and now have control of the club. But a win win, anything that happens now can be blamed on Laudrup.

A loss to Cardiff and it would have been easy to sack Laudrup with big support from the fans. A win against Cardiff and we'd be all motivated and almost guaranteed to avoid relegation. Laudrup would have gone in the summer earning us big £'s and giving plenty of time to find a replacement.

Some media stories suggest the sacking was solely down to Laudrup taking Monday off. If so that is a huge over-reaction.

I don’t know enough about the workings of the club or its history to offer an opinion on the sacking of ML. However, I think I do know something about ML’s mind set. The very moment ML realized the board was trying to get rid of him cheaply with the pityful Monk move, I’m sure he decided to wave farewell all the way from Paris. He can’t stand cheap tricks and left the board, quite elegantly, with no other option than to sack him in the proper way.

That's obviously not true. No club would sack a manager for taking one day off. It's a combination of things. Most notably bad results, shocking performance against WHU, player unrest.
