Sounds very level headed and happy to work within the structure and confines of the club while being positive about continuing our style of play. Transcript below: http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footba...-live-press-conference-1-50pm-91466-31231839/ Thursday June 21, 2012 Comment From Chris Wathan Plenty of Danish media represented here, Laudrup still a huge name in his homeland where he was voted his country's greatest ever player 1:58 Comment From Chris Wathan Laudrup's family also in attendance, say they like what they have seen from the city - despite the weather! Torrential rain marking the start of Laudrup's reign. 1:58 Comment From Ashleigh Welcome to swansea Michael this is the first taste of things to come from you 1:59 Comment From Dean Fingers crossed this is the start of something great 2:00 Twitter ChrisWathan: In place at the Liberty Stadium for Laudrup's first press conference. Live blog here http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footba...-live-press-conference-1-50pm-91466-31231839/ [via Twitter] 2:03 Comment From Chris Wathan Here they come - lightbulb flashes greet Laudrup to the room 2:03 Comment From Chris Wathan Surrealism of one of the world's greatest player sat in front of sign saying Swansea City manager now setting in 2:03 Wales Online: Rebecca Laudrup, Michael's daughter described Swansea as an "amazing place" on Twitter yesterday and now he is in place himself 2:04 Comment From Chris Wathan Jenkins We're dleighted to be in this position where Michael accepted postion of manager and we are looking forward to taking the club forward as we have done last efw years. We believe he is an excllent chocie to carry on all good work we have had here. The discussions we have had in football about what Michale could bring us, first and foremost it is about a perosnality behind what we're about in our philosophy and seen what we have done in the last few years and seen how we can go forward together. In picking managers here it is getting the right person, we've done it in the past and we feel we've done it again. 2:05 Twitter timlewis01: Laudrup "it's a huge challenge but will be a great experience. Their philosophy fits with the way I want to play football" [via Twitter] 2:07 Comment From Chris Wathan Laudrup - Happy to be here, huge challnege for me. When I heard about Swansea's interest I did a lot of digging about what football they wnat to play and the stroy of the club. And I saw the philosophy goes along with my football. That's the main reason I'm here. 2:07 Comment From Chris Wathan Laudrup I thought about it because it was changing countries ansd culture but made decision and I'm happy about it. 2:07 Comment From Chris Wathan I didn't know much about Swansea. The Spanish La Liga was my preferred football because I lived there. I had to reasearch; if I had done it in former jobs perhaps things would have been different. 2:07 Comment From Chris Wathan Everyone I spoke to said this would be very good for me. 2:07 Comment From Chris Wathan Laudrup - I don't have the experience with this league. I need people around me to help me, espcially in the beginning. The manager has to make the final decision but I will delegate because that will be important for us. 2:08 Comment From Chris Wathan Laudrup says he would like Erik Larsen to work with him but will want to see what works at Swansea first 2:09 Comment From Chris Wathan Laudrup - (on Sigurdsson) It's a special case. Theer is a possibility for him to go to another club. He did very well here but bigger clubs can come with a lot of money. I would like him but we have to look at the financial side of things. 2:10 Wales Online: Laudrup guarded on Sigurdsson there, something which Swans fans will have been eager to hear what he said. Sounds like Liverpool may be beckoning though. 2:10 Twitter timlewis01: Laudrup says he will work with the current squad before he starts thinking about signings but he does have players in mind [via Twitter] 2:10 Comment From Chris Wathan Laudrup - I have my ideas on players. We have spoken a lot on this already. We will do some more research. To sign 7 or 8 players before you start doesn't make sense. We might start and see where we can improve. When you come as a manager there are always players who can surprise you. 2:10 Comment From Chris Wathan Laudrup - It is early to give targets for next season. Let's see what happens in terms of who's coming and going. They had a fantatsic season last year. We know second season in every country is very difficult but we have to find our target further along 2:11 Wales Online: And confirmation there that laudrup will be expected to work with the squad which has established itself so impressively in the PL. 2:11 Comment From Chris Wathan Jenkins - We're delighted to have someone with his background. Fact that he played at those teams and the way they played is vitally important to us 2:12 Comment From Chris Wathan Jenkins - His arrival says something about the perception over Europe of the club. 2:13 Twitter ChrisWathan: Live blog on Laudrup here http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footba...-live-press-conference-1-50pm-91466-31231839/ @timlewis01 live tweeting [via Twitter] 2:13 Comment From Chris Wathan Jenkins - We have had numerous conversations on transfers but we have a common sense approach to things. We want to be competitive 2:13 Comment From Chris Wathan BREAKING - Laudrup confirms Erik Larsen to join club as his assistant. Says will assess before adding backroom staff 2:13 Comment From Guest Any hope of signing Siggy and Caulker? obviously we are in need of a centre beck and attacking midfielder. 2:14 Comment From Chris Wathan Laudrup - The club is competitive. We have people here who know what they're doing. It will be difficult but we will have plenty of people to ask to get opinions and help at the beginning. There are things I don't know too much about. 2:15 Comment From Chris Wathan Laudrup - This is the first timer I've come. It is not the other end of the world. It rains a little more than Mallorca but it's OK! 2:15 Wales Online: Nice line there about Mallorca and Swansea. Looks like he's making all the right noises early on. Inspired appointment Swans? 2:15 Comment From Chris Wathan Laudrup - Me and the chairman discussed a lot of things and asked a lot of questions. We put down the positives and negatives and made up our minds. 2:16 Comment From Chris Wathan Laudrup - It seems whenever I sign somewhere I have to sign Danish players. They're nationality doesn't matter. The most important thing is quality. 2:17 Comment From Chris Wathan Laudrup - We will also have to look at the price. We will look for quality for reasonable amount of money. 2:17 Comment From Guest seems very level headed and approachable 2:17 Comment From Chris Wathan Jenkins - A lot of speculation around who would be manager but with Michael's background it was clear who and what type we needed to bring in and Michael was a perfect fit for that. 2:17 Comment From Caleb Interested in bringing in any Welsh players? 2:18 Comment From Guest Football wise, what will be his biggest challenge in the next few months ? 2:18 Comment From Lisa Very impressed by him! 2:18 Comment From Chris Wathan Jenkins - We sit here in a completely different set of circumtances to where we were ten years ago. A lot of people have worked hard to get here. When we look to next season we need same spirit to continue on this path and not gone backwards on path we've been on 2:19 Wales Online: How impressive is Huw Jenkins? Barely put a foot wrong when it has come to appointing managers. Laudrup sounds like he has bought into the philosophy and they have been very honest with each other about their ambitions. 2:19 Comment From Chris Wathan Jenkins - Michael fully aware of way our club operates. We've talked about our principles. Football seems to judge ambition on spending money when there's no guarantee of it. We will use common sense and see where it takes us 2:20 Comment From Chris Wathan Top table broadcast press conference comes to a close. Thanks for joining us. More on walesonline.co.uk later and in tomorrow's Western Mail 2:22 Comment From InsideSCFC Thanks for the coverage all. 2:23 Wales Online: Just to recap some more of what Laudrup said there: 2:23 Wales Online: Laudrup "it's a huge challenge but will be a great experience. Their philosophy fits with the way I want to play football" 2:23 Wales Online: Laudrup: "I did not know much about Swansea but I did some research and the people I talked to were very positive and said it would be good" 2:24 Twitter DafPritchard: Michael Laudrup, Swansea City manager. http://lockerz.com/s/218851788 [via Twitter] 2:24 Wales Online: Laudrup attracted by the challenge of Premier League football and Swansea's philosophy key to how he wants to play. 2:25 Wales Online: That just about concludes the first knockings of Michael Laudrup's press involvement in the Swansea City hotseat. 2:25 Wales Online: Thanks for joining us. Looks like even more exciting times ahead for the Swans.
Today, with Laudrup assuming the mantle of our philosophy .... all I can think of is Wow, and all previous managers fade into the background and the mists of time past. For me it further redfines the philosophy of "big" club. We're are not big in finances, nor big in infrastructure, but we are Big in terms of our progressive football culture and our philosophy - from the players through the club to the fan base we are one in this regard. We are getting Bigger on the field, which is what the game is all about, and we are going to get bigger. It is not all going to materialize over night, let's be realistic, but yet again we take a significant step forward in building our brand, establishing and enforcing our credibility and continuing the path to excellence that germinated on the brink of disaster only a decade or so back.
Once again, Yankee_Jack makes a stirring speech before the battle commences!! All for one and one for all. Hurrah!
here's the press conference ala Sky .... http://www.skysports.com/video/inline/0,,16494_7833310,00.html
Just seen on SkySports via twitter that you guys have put in a bid of £3million for Middlesbrough striker Marvin Emnes, could possibly do a job. What's your thoughts? Apologies for adding this to the Laudrup thread but was wondering if you think he is a Laudrup signing or someone the club has been looking at for a while?
My thoughts are who on earth would sanction that move when our manager only turned up today ! its got to be bullshit ! Marvin did ok down here but i wouldnt pay £3m quid for him, he is kinda thought of more positively because he scored the winner against cardiff red dragons (formerly bluebirds) . A decent player but im not sure how he would manage in the prem league. Brenden might go for him, seems to like going for former loan players..
Unlikely its our new manager's choice so a strange one . as a replacement for Moore / Lita then yes but as an addition to the squad is a bit pricey
I thought Emnes had a pretty good last season scoring 18 goals in a pretty mediocre Boro team, fair enough it was the first time that he has hit double figures in his career but at 24 years of age might be worth a shot, surely a good back up to Graham and Sinclair? Or are you hoping Laudrup can lure some bigger names to the Liberty?
Just watched your new managers press conference and I must say I am very impressed with his composure and reason for joining. I thought Norwich City had done well with their appointment but you've definitely eclipsed that with Laudrup. Well done Huw.
Laudrup impressed me not wanting to rush into things, looks like a deep thinker very careful with what he say's. One happy Jack tonight!!!
Yes articulate and intelligent, admitted that he has limited knowledge of the premier league but I think he'll adapt quickly with the help of our remaining back room staff.
It's pretty clear he doesn't know much about us but that's not surprising. Let's see what happens, but like everyone else I'm optimistic.
Looks like Huw has made another inspired selection Musty. Let's hope he (Laudrup) is good to his word and maintains the footballing ethos at the club. I hope he does well for you. Good to see you all smiling again.
Seems to be a nice a guy, and truthful that he knows little about us. But as the guy has never played or managed in the UK that is no surprise. I am looking forward to him managing our team. I am sure Gary Monk will have a massive role to play in him linking the players to the manager. Exciting times
