Darrell Clarke says he is playing a waiting game in his attempts to secure a temporary replacement for injured goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall. Mildenhall is set to have a scan on the knee he injured at Wrexham on Tuesday night, but is already expected to be out of action for a fortnight at least. With recognised No 2 Will Puddy sidelined after recently breaking his arm, and youngster Kieran Preston yet to feature in a senior team game, Clarke has been making frantic enquiries in a bid to bring someone else in on loan before go to Welling United on Saturday. Clarke said:
“We’re making enquiries and it is a case of playing the waiting game at the moment. We have one or to options in the pipeline and I am hopeful that we can get something done before the Welling game. The problem we have is that there are a lot of young development goalkeepers available, but, ideally, I’m looking for somebody with a bit of experience. I’m hanging fire a little bit in order to try and do that, and if I have to go down the development goalkeeper route I want a top-end one. It’s a wait and see how it develops.”

Clarke, meanwhile, confirmed that he has a number of injury concerns other than Mildenhall ahead of the trip to Park View Road. Lyle Della-Verde will also have a scan on an injured ankle that forced his withdrawal at Wrexham, while five other players also suffered knocks at the Racecourse Stadium. Clarke said:
“I don’t want to jump the gun and say that Lyle won’t play for us again before his loan spell ends in January, but, if a player is booked in for a scan it is not a good sign in itself. We have five other players who won’t be training on Thursday and at least a couple of those are very doubtful for the game on Saturday.”

So DC is hoping to get an experienced keeper in the door by Saturday but sounds like he has options for young development keepers if the deals for experienced keepers go come off. Its good that he has options at least. I wonder if he will though actually get anyone in the door in time for Saturday!

Its a worry though reading the last paragraph! Sounds like Della-Verd may have played his last game for us as may be out for longer than 4 weeks which is when his loan deal comes to an end! Also other than Mildenhall and Della-Verde, there is another 5 players who was is currently injured that was involved at Wrexham! And some are doubts for Saturdays game! Wonder who they are??

Puddy, Mildenhall, Della-verd, Brown, Taylor, can't think of anymore unless there are fringe players out.

DC said the 5 players in the treatment room and doubtful for Saturday was involved in the game at Wrexham, so that means not Puddy or other fringe players. The 5 players are on top of Mildenhall and Della-Verde so 7 actully injured from Wrexham game.

Brown and Taylor are good shouts as Taylor was the player who got the bad tackle which resulted in the red card to Wrexham and Brown was limping during the game too. I think you are right with these 2. Add them to Mildenhall and Della-Verde, 3 other players from the Wrexham game is in the treatment room and doubts for Saturday. Hope Balanta isnt 1 of them. He played 70 mins which is more than what DC wanted. He could be struggling. That was Trotmans 1st game time in ages so he may be feeling it a bit.

My guess is the 7 are...

    Mildenhall
    Della-Verde
    Trotman
    Brown
    Taylor
    Balanta
I have no idea of number 7.
