Quite an uplifting rallying cry before the new season. I'm loving the positivity However, he does take a moment to cast aspersions on the Hughton regime, naughty man!! http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter...nd-embrace-the-carrow-road-feel-good-factor/?
I seem to remember when he joined he said he would not move his family until he was guaranteed to be here for a length of time, ie, more than the end of the season. I believe he may be here next season now.
Does that mean there was a time when you didn't think he'd be here? His six month spell in charge has panned out better than even the wildest optimist - or David McNally could have wished for, so surely he wants a crack at finishing what he's started?
Well if there isn´t any positivity now, I can´t think when the hell there will be any, but, like other snide commentators before him, he apparently finds it impossible to enjoy the moment and look to the future, without throwing yet more dirt in Hughton´s direction. I find it amazing that some people just can´t let go and move on. His time here wasn´t a success, we know, but he certainly doesn´t deserve to be dogged by cheap jibes from the local Norwich media and Norwich message boards, for the remainder of his career.
Yes I agree, and also whil he was not the most exciting of managers in terms of style he surely set the team up in the way to maximise the return and had it not been for Sunderland's amazing escape we would have stayed up.
Is that because he's a very nice man? My views on CH have been well documented and he COULD have set us back years had it not been for DM's acquisition of AN. I've moved on and looking to the future however I'm not going to lambast anyone who is still having a dig at CH because he ****ed us up and will in all probability **** up Brighton. Now I promise you all that is definitely my last word on the subject. ......unless I get a comeback here of course
Chris Hughton only ****ed up the first team performances. He achieved a lot behind the scenes and turned us from a barely championship standard club into a proper Premier League structure. It's a big mistake to assume that just because he ultimately wasn't up to the task of getting first team results he was a failure because his mandate was much bigger than first team duties. He did far more good than harm - and the harm he did only took a brief stint in the Championship (with some great memories) to cure, whereas we'll be reaping the rewards of the good he did for years to come.
What is it exactly that he 'achieved behind the scenes ' Rob ? I would be interested to know, seriously.
My post was tongue in cheek. I just hope the club can tie him dowN for the long term now, so that when the big boys start sniffing around, and I am certain this will happen, we can react from a position of strength.
You must have heard about the transformation of our scouting network, support staff, youth development, etc? It's been discussed multiple times by McNally and co, but essentially we were transformed from an poorly run, small-minded club into one with a real plan for the future. In large part that was also down to McNally of course, but the whole reason McNally explained they found it difficult to sack Hughton was because he ran everything at the club. I don't disagree with you that he failed with the first team (though others have out forward decent cases for why it wasn't a complete failure) and also that first team is the most important aspect, but fortunately (as it transpired) his failure there has been only temporarily felt (it could have been worse, obviously...) whereas the changes to our facilities, support staff, scouting, youth dev will be lasting. I would be saying something quite different if we hadn't been promoted
KIO - you make ´being nice´ sound like a crime, which it isn´t, whether one is nice or nasty no-one deserves the sort of treatment that Hughton has had to bear from various NCFC related outlets, since he left. Neil Adams did very little more for us, but I don´t hear him being smeared in the same way, at every available opportunity, Hughton came, did his best in an unenviable (post Lambert) situation, and has now gone - very sad that some can´t let it go and wish him the best.
Well on the pitch I'd say he achieved a few things, despite the efforts of some who try to re-write his tenure as some kind of unmitigated disaster with no positive moments at all. - highest league finish (11th) for 20 years - longest unbeaten run (10 games) in the top flight since I don't know when, possibly ever - wins against Arsenal, United and Citeh - signings of Tettey, Bassong, Olsson and Redmond (and also Harry Kane, who unfortunately due to injuries never got going, but imagine if he'd had a season like he did last year!) I'd say they were pretty decent achievements worth mentioning personally, and it's hardly as if we were relegated by March with only 12 points or something is it, which is how some people seem to be behaving. We were relegated by the skin of our teeth in a season where very little ever seemed to 'go for us'. I'm not saying we shouldn't have sacked him and I'm not saying he did an amazing job or anything, just think he needs a bit more credit than certain people appear capable of giving him, some of the crap I read on here about him simply beggars belief.
I thought AN said that he wouldn't move his family down here until the summer as he didn't want to disturb his children's education. Regarding the comment made about Lambert. His wife refused to move from Scotland throughout his career both as a player and a manager.
New MFW column from today. And bloody excellent - and an accurate portrayal it is, too http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter...a-nonchalant-seb-all-reasons-to-be-cheerful/?
Certainly wouldn´t call it that, but more acceptable and fairer comment, I agree, however, these endless variations on the same theme, churned out every couple of days, become very boring after a while. When there really isn´t anything new to say, which there isn´t at the moment, it seems to me as if they´re just filling out space.
A decent article all round especially the final paragraph. A lot will depend on how well some of the other Clubs mentioned in the article improve their squads in the Summer but I still feel quite optimistic that we are better equipped to survive than Bournemouth,Watford and at least one other. I would accept 4th from bottom now and I just hope that realism reigns amongst the fans. A lot of the disappointment last time was because after signing a few players for big money to us, but peanuts to most other Clubs in the league, some fans were talking about top half finishes - even a push for Europe!!
