We're still talking to him, so either Warnock is telling him to get real or we're getting desperate, probably somewhere between the two...

I've heard, this morning, that if the Riise deal to Fulham falls apart, we're likely to step in.....

    Cannot confirm that....just a rumour!

Riise would be a good move, but what about Konchesky?
Don't want Boothroyd on £65k p/w - £65k per year is more reasonable

    Interesting that first article.

I can see Flav greedily holding out for £18m for Tararararararabat and no-one paying it as thats far too high. I'm convinced he will still be with us for the Bolton game and eventually sold to a European Champions League / Europa League side in January. And a goos point well made that with a 3 year contract there's no pressure to sell. Sadly the reality is that he'll do a sulk if he's not flogged but tbh his best bet would be to take the Prem by storm and nudge a bid from SAF or Roman....

I actually wouldn't mind Carlton Cole & Bothroyd up front, pretty potent strikeforce if you ask me.

    Another positive day!!

Lots of rumours today - did Bernie find his dusty old cheque book down the back of the sofa?

Love the optimism and banter. :)

this cole saga baffles me its common knowledge that our current owners are tighter than a ducks arse, what makes anyone think we would pay £6m for a player and bothroyd wanting £65k is beyond a joke,it must be a quiet time on the news front

Stoke City have beaten QPR to win the £6 million race for West Ham striker Carlton Cole, Goal.com can reveal.

The England international is due in Stoke on Friday to discuss personal terms after the Potters doubled their initial £3m bid plus add-ons, which had been swiftly rejected by the Hammers.

The £6m offer matches the bid lodged by QPR boss Neil Warnock, who had hoped to convince Cole to move across London to Loftus Road.

But Cole has rejected the chance to stay in London and will join Stoke, who turned their attentions to the 27-year-old after failing to agree personal terms with Birmingham forward Cameron Jerome.

West Ham opted to cash in on Cole following their relegation to the Championship as new manager Sam Allardyce looks to cut the wage bill and balance the books.

Fellow England internationals Rob Green and Scott Parker have also been linked with summer moves away from Upton Park but Allardyce has warned he will not let his best players leave on the cheap.

Cole scored just five Premier League goals last season but netted a total of 42 times in 165 appearances for West Ham after signing from Chelsea in 2006.

Bloody hell. If that is true Warnock will be gutted. According to the Moose on talk sport QPR and Warnock were desperate to land Cole. To put a £6 million bid in we must have been.

Whilst I'm surprised that the deadly duo would stump up £6m, I've seen Cole (27) have some great games so I think he might be a great signing if we could pip Stoke to his signature. Bothroyd also looks expensive at 65k a week (albeit without a transfer fee). Again, I'd like to see him in the hoops but I'd worry what this might do to our wage structure. Is a big signing on fee the answer, no matter how risky that might be with respect to his future motivation?

To continue in this vein, Riise is 30 and I'd rather spend my £2.2m on someone younger. Some of the fees mentioned for ageing players are really surprising: Wes Brown is 31 and has signed a four year contract for a fee of £4m and £40k a week, and John O'Shea (30) is apparently worth the same fee! (Source:The Times)

BTW, I've seen elsewhere on several occasions that Taraabt (21) has just 2 years left on his contract. I'd love it if the report above is correct and it's actually 3 years.

Finally, the Times also says Steve Bruce might sell us Anton Ferdinand to fund further purchases, although why we should want him, I'm not sure: he's hardly set the premiership alight.

I'd rather focus our money on some younger players who have lower wages, a future in the game and a future transfer value.

Why don't we just increase the offer to £6,000,005?
