Last Saturday was fantastic with Kauto Star winning the Betfair Chase, very few of us thought he'd beat Long Run. Today was great too with Carruthers winning the Hennessy, much deserved for his consistency in big races. Only wish Lord Oaksey was at Newbury to see it.

Can't argue with that London Man.

How anyone backed Carruthers is frankly beyond me,regardless of his mark of 146.

He hasn't won for two years and that had little to do with his mark which was never above the mid 150's...maybe he wasn't right last season?

Well done all involved,he's such a game little horse.

Carruthers jumped dreadfully for most of the race but well done to him for standing up and collecting. I followed the info and backed Aiteen Thirtythree so Nicholls run was bound to end.

Today was good for seeing Peddlers Cross, Big Bucks, Prospect Wells, Overturn, Rock On Ruby and Call The Police. I thought the Hennessey was a poor race as the first 3 places were filled by 2nd tier chasers from previous years. The "up and coming" brigade disappointed massively.

Think you have it spot on there Oddy. The older brigade seem to have little to fear from last season's staying novices.

They all look more national types than Gold Cup contenders.

Brilliant for Lord Oaksey to win the Hennessy with his homebred. A special day.

You have to remember guys, that none of last season novices, that ran in the Hennessy were anywhere near the best ones. Wayward Prince, Wymott and Aiteen Thirtythree, are knowere near as good as the likes of Quito De La Roque, Bostons Angel or even Time For Rupert.

When Denman was running in the race last year off 182, the race attracted some of the better 2nd season chasers, because they knew they would get in off 10 stone.

I felt Wymott could have given a better account of himself, if he had a decent jockey on board, im not sure how Graham Lee expected to win the race, by travelling widest of all, the whole way round. Wymott only lost by 6 lengths, and he must have given away more than double that travelling 5 wide the whole race.

As for the places being filled by 2nd tier chasers, I feel that's a little harsh, Planet Of Sound is a good horse, who has won a Guiness Gold Cup afterall

The supposedly 'second-tier' staying novices were weighted accordingly Shergs. I think you have to conclude that their collective performance was disappointing. I don't think any of them had the pace for the race. They all looked like they want national trips.

And that Guiness Gold Cup that Planet Of Sound won was a very poor race. Denman finished 4th and he ran 4m!

All in all, I thought the race lacked the quality of last year. We all know that anyway. There would be few who would begrudge Carruthers the win, he's a much loved horse. Has he improved, is be better than last year? Dunno, but on face value, I have to believe that he probably hasn't. And if he has, he's probably not too much better. Like a lot of others, I think there were quite a few looked better on paper than they actually were. I don't know too much about the race, so I can't comment on whether the race fell below the usual standard, maybe I was just lucky enough to see a wonderful horse do something exceptional last year.

Oddy: Good morning! Tks for clip, yes he really is quite good! <laugh> Walsh hardly moved on him, amazing. After 25 days we are at last with Telekom, mainly because 1&1 messed around with external disconnections (kicked us out though right on the dot at midnight the 31st). Worth the wait, now have super duper broadband which is just great. Now having first of the Sunday Frühschoppen, so cheers! <cheers>

(Take a look at Simonside today at Leícester, bit of a chance I'd say. Had a go at 7/2 - Good luck with your wagers). <ok>

Nice to hear from you Swanny - forgot you were changing providers, was beginning to think you'd gone off horse racing ;)

Happy first advent to you and yours. I may have to delay drinking for a few hours yet - I managed to polish off 8 bottles of Becks and a bottle of white wine last night so feeling a little fragile <yikes>

You still using Filmon? Seems to be free now for terrestrial UK TV - I can watch Channel 4 racing on it, don't even need to download the software, can watch an embedded version on hteir website <ok>

    All the best

Oh yeah. Amazing performance which hasn't been tainted by his subsequent exploits. The way he went past a future Ascot Gold Cup winner as if he was stood still is amazing.

How would I get to the free streaming on Filmon. I opened the site and up popped a lot of channels, all working, but how do I find the racing?

Oddy:  No, horseracing is just part of me, but am now just a little more sensible with my bets than I was when younger (just a little!). Yes, Happy First Advent to you and your family too. Wife has done up everything impressively, as usual, so lights will be ablaze tonight.

Say, that really is interesting on Filmon. I only watch terrestrial UK TV, but I'm afraid I am pretty dumb with computer stuff. How do I find an embedded version on their website? Am paying €14.95 a month, but only use less than 20% of what's available on their software. Watch Channel 4 without fail every Saturday, just great! Any advice you can give me on the embedded version (e.g. how does one switch channels, etc.) would be much appreciated. Will go to their website now and muck around a bit, as don't want to appear too lazy. But, as I said, I ain't too learned at this lark. Many thanks!

    All the best.

Cyc: Aussies should pay premium rate 'cos it's so far away, and a bunch of drilling to go straight there..................<run> (where is the bloody <run> thing anyway - Ron uses it for himself, I think!).

Looks like they were just trialling the free viewing a week or so ago - went on there now and it's only giving you 2 minutes free. I definitely watched the Paddy Power Gold Cup on there last weekend. Hmmmm - maybe they were just trying to get people interested?

Bastards. It's strange how the BBC charge you lot, but we outsiders used their site for free.

You can try TV Nutters - http://www.tvnutters.com/

A bit variable on quality and availability but better than nothing. Cyc - the only racing you'll get on there is when BBC or Channel 4 show it (Saturday afternoons)
