The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien
    Great Expectations - Charles Dickens
History of the World - J M Roberts
His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman
Someplace to be Flying - Charles De Lint

Currently reading - The End of Food: The Coming Crisis in the World Food Industry by Paul Roberts. Scary stuff if even a fraction of it comes true. And as his The End of Oil book written five years ago is prooving to be scarily accurate I fear it might. The end is nigh ... we're doomed i tell you, doomed!! :)

Any 5 by Michael Connelly but especially 'a darkness more than night.'
Alternatively the 'graphic novel' (i.e. long grownup's comic) The Watchmen is excellent, and the movie didnt do it justice.

(i hear RIP is a big fan of the 'Spot the Dog' series)

    Same here :emoticon-0148-yes:

I even love reading the ones showing the early drafts of his work, explaining how he got to the finished article. Also Letter of JRR Tolkien which is just a collection of letters to and from his publisher and friends talking about the books and explaining various points. Can't get enough of them! :)

I was gonna say good luck getting hold of a copy because it only had a one print hardback release in 1981 and last time i looked was selling for about £200 second hand. But just checked amazon and it was re-released in paperback in 2006 and can be bought for about £7. Luckily I bought it on release so didn't have to take out a mortgage for my copy :)

Yeah Truman Capote, great book. The film based upon his writing of it "Capote" starring Phillip Seymour Hoffman is pretty good as well if you haven't seen it.

The Godfather - Mario Puzo (better than the film)
The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde
    Animal Farm - George Orwell
Anything by Roald Dahl, his work for adults or children, all of it is actually genius. He is hands down my favourite writer! The more I learn about creative writing, the better he gets!
Most things by Roddy Doyle, The Van, The commitments, A star Called Henry - all immense!

<ok> Some classics in their overseasToon. Literally in the case of The Illiad :) Find it ironic that these days you say Homer to somebody and they think of the Simpsons. Beginning of the end of culture if you ask me!

Colossus and Stalingrad both great too. Only recently finished Berlin by Antony Beevor and that was almost as good.

I've read everything by Antony Beevor and all have been great.

I'm halfway through Jerusalem: The Biography at the moment and it's a real pleasure to read.

I'm a bit of a history fanatic and it's all I ever read.
